White House Petition to name Navy Ship for Slain American Sniper SEAL Chris Kyle (Photos)

America was stunned on when best seller author and former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle and his friend, Chad Littlefield, were gunned down on Feb. 2nd by a fellow veteran they were attempting to help deal with PTSD.

Chris Kyle was one of the best recognized members of the normally secretive SEAL community. His fame was the result of his status as America's deadliest sniper with at least 160 confirmed kills during his service in four tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. After his retirement in 2009, Kyle published his memoir American Sniper which reached the New York Times best seller list and led to appearances on numerous network and reality TV programs.

Kyle's unfortunate death resulted in an outpouring of national grief and most recently has led to a movement to honor his memory by having a Navy Ship named after him. On Feb. 5th a petition was started on the White House website which reads:

WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:
Name a US Naval Vessel in Honor of US Navy Seal Chris Kyle. USS Chris Kyle.
Chris Kyle, a former Navy SEAL who wrote the best-selling book American Sniper about his service in Iraq, was shot and killed at a gun range in Texas

In honor of his service. We should honor him by naming a US Naval Vessel After Him.

USS Chris Kyle.

As of this writing, the White House petition website has received just over 2,300 of the 100,000 signatures required to prompt an official response.

One of them was mine.
