Is the White House still the “people’s house”, open to all willing to come, or is it now Obama’s personal castle free for he and he alone to decide who can and who cannot pop by for a little visit?
No, it is not a hypothetical.
It is a very real question brought on by the very real actions of an unfortunately far too real White House political machine.
It’s been a busy week at the White House.
This past Monday, former fake journalist and White House “mini-mouth” Jay Carney was fending off accusations that the President was for sale in light of recent reports that his latest hypocritical incarnation, Organizing for Action, was promising quarterly meetings with Dear Leader for anyone willing to pony up or bundle up a cool $500k to further along “Mr. Cool’s” transformation of America.
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney today was carefully dodging questions about WHETHER THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES IS FOR SALE, denying that there is a “set price” for meetings with the president.
So what does that mean, exactly – no set price – that the price is negotiable?
The very next day, “we the people” were put on notice that the house that they pay for, that they own, would no longer be available for them to tour because.
“Thank you for calling the White House visitor’s office 24-hour information line…due to staffing reductions resulting from sequestration, we regret to inform that White House tours will be canceled effective Saturday, March 9, 2013…we very much regret having to take this action, particularly during the popular spring touring season.”
Yet as Jim Hoft, thegatwaypundit, posted that night, and we all now know, the tours themselves are facilitated by volunteers and self-guided to boot!
Now stop for a second and let those two stories sink in.
On Monday the White House is double-talking about outside bundlers buying influence with the President and on Tuesday it puts out a recording telling school kids across the nation that because Dear Leader didn’t get his way on the sequester he’s going to make those big bad evil Republicans pay for their insolence by closing the White House to public tours and destroy the plans of thousands of children in the process.
It’s the kind of “you gonna mess with me?…then I’m gonna “F” you up dude” one expects from a south side Chicago thug community organizer extracting concessions from a precinct captain but not from the occupant of the Oval Office. Oh wait…sorry, I’m still having trouble understanding how this whole “transforming” of the Presidency from a professional and regal office into a cesspool of petty political trolls plotting 24/7 against their “master’s” enemies is a good thing.
Notice the wording at the end of the recording. Notice the emphasis on “sequestration” and “popular spring touring season”. It’s straight from Alinsky and pure Obama.
There is not one reason, not one mind you, other than petty partisan politics for the doors to the White House to now be closed to the very people who pay for them.
Yet in the mind of Obama it is completely appropriate that those same “people” feel the “pain” of sequester just exactly as he has described it in his non-stop campaigning about it for the past two weeks.
We are just supposed to forget that said campaign of doom could not even start until the President had enjoyed his weekend outing with Tiger Woods that cost untold hundreds of thousands of the “people’s” dollars. But I digress
But to add insult to injury are the two snippets below.
First, from the official White House.gov website itself:
White House Tours
Public tours of the White House are available. Requests must be submitted through one’s Member of Congress. These self-guided tours are available from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Fridays, and 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturdays (excluding federal holidays or unless otherwise noted).
Yes, you read it right. On the official “Tours & Events” page of the White House web site that you the people pay for, not ONE word that your White House is now closed to tours so the President of the United States can play his little political games.
Second is from the “Inside the White House” section:
“This is really what the White House is all about. It’s the “People’s House.” It’s a place that is steeped in history, but it’s also a place where everyone should feel welcome. And that’s why my husband and I have made it our mission to open up the house to as many people as we can.” – Michelle Obama
So, according to the First Lady’s words the White House is the “People’s House” and “everyone should feel welcome”, and her and hubby want to keep it open to “as many people as we can.”.
Yet now thanks to the actions of said First Lady’s husband, “as many as can” now means zip, zilch, nadda, and “welcome” is “stay the hell home, I’ve got scores to settle”.
Yet for all the hand wringing and the news coverage of the tours being canceled my own petition on the White House website has gotten a whopping 9 signatures. (Nothing is more humbling than jumping out of the trenches and yelling “charge” only to suddenly look back and realize everyone else has decided to just stay put.)
I’ve been told by some that they don’t want to sign because it requires putting name and email into the “official” White House site.
I gotta tell ya folks, I’m a little bit more than discouraged this morning.
If all it takes is asking for an email address and name to keep people from speaking out against their government this nation is not just in trouble, it’s gone.
But even if you still prefer to “shovel shit in Louisiana” rather than sign the White House petition please at least consider giving these Iowa 6th graders a “like” on their facebook page.
OR you could copy and paste this prayer and email it to Dear Leader:
“I pray Heaven to bestow the best of blessings on this House, and all that shall hereafter inhabit it. May none but honest and wise men ever rule under this roof.”
Those words were penned by the second President of these United States, Mr. John Adams in a letter he wrote to his wife Abigail on just the second day of his residency in the White House.
From the very beginning of his political career Obama has shown himself to anything but “honest”, but this week he has also secured himself to history as anything but “wise” as well.
