The White County Creative Writers’ 19th Annual Writers’ Conference will take place Saturday August 30, 2014 in Searcy, Arkansas on the second floor of the American Heritage Conference Center at Harding University. The registration fee of $25.00 includes a luncheon, during which the awards for the 13 featured writing contest will be presented. The deadline for registration is August 23. Although attendees are allowed to register the morning of the conference from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., luncheon may not be included.
The conference will begin at 8:35 a.m. with the opening remarks. The first guest speaker is Linda Apple, author of such books as Writing Life – Your Stories Matter! and the novel Women of Washington Avenue, who will present The Creative Nonfiction Writing Style from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. The program will focus on how fiction techniques can be used to write the truth. Following a break, Linda Apple will take the floor again for a presentation titled Writing Life, in which Apple will discuss writing personal life stories and memoirs.
The luncheon and awards ceremony will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The award-winning and USA Today best-selling author Laura Castoro, who has written over forty books in various genres, will address the conference from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. with the discussion Character Development, during which Castoro will talk about selecting the proper character motivation, giving a character possibilities and tailoring a character.
After a break, Castoro will switch gears from a creative to a more commercial topic, when she presents her second program tilted Editing/Publishing from 2:45 p.m. to 4 p.m. This discussion explains the options a writer faces when editing and publishing. Castoro will also talk about the ups and downs of the process.
