Whitaker gets apology from deli that frisked the actor

According to ABC News on Feb. 19, actor Forest Whitaker gets apology from the New York deli whose employee frisked him last week. This is a big turnaround from the denial the owner of the deli originally gave, claiming the frisking never occurred.

The actor said he visited the deli last week and when he prepared to leave, an employee approached him and accused him of shoplifting. The employee then frisked Whitaker before allowing him to leave. While the actor chose not to press charges, his representatives did say they wanted something done, if only in the form of an apology. He said that he just wants the deli to treat all customers in a fair manner.

The deli owner originally denied the incident occurred. Now, Anthony Galofaro said it did happen and said that the employee who did it is "no longer with us." He also said they would be doing better training on how to handle situations such as this. He said there is a lot of shoplifting that takes place in the deli and the employee thought Whitaker stole something. It was just the way he went about the frisking that went against policy.

Galofaro also said in his apology that, if it would help rectify the situation, he would donate money to a charity of Whitaker's choosing.
