Whip of Erebos is one of the newest "Theros" spoilers revealed today Sept. 10, 2013 from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert "Magic: The Gathering" expansion set in an article by Gavin Verhey on DailyMTG.com. Whip of Erebos is part of a five card cycle of signature weapons in the set alongside Spear of Heliod, Hammer of Purphoros, Bident of Thassa, and Bow of Nylea.

Whip of Erebos - 2BB
Legendary Enchantment Artifact (Rare)
Creatures you control have lifelink.
2BB, Tap: Return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield. It gains haste. Exile it at the beginning of the next end step. If it would leave the battlefield, exile it instead of putting it anywhere else. Activate this ability only any time you could cast a sorcery.

Giving all of your Lifelink can be a complete game changer. Depending on how aggressive your deck is, it's possible to deal more than 20 damage just through combat, effectively doubling your life total. All that life gain will help negate the life loss from powerful cards like Thoughtseize, Dark Prophecy, Erebos, God of the Dead, Vizkopa Confessor, and Underworld Connections.

Whip of Erebos won't let your dead creatures Rest in Peace though. It can bring them back for a turn to attack again and help refill your life total. Verhey points out that Whip of Erebos works wonders alongside creatures that have "enters the battlefield" abilities such as Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Sin Collector, Armanda Wurm, Angel of Serenity, and Trostani's Summoner. Whip of Erebos also has synergy with creatures that exile themselves like Obzedat, Ghost Council and Aetherling.

There's no doubt Whip of Erebos will be a complete bomb in limited formats where the combination of lifelink and resurrecting your creatures will overwhelm your opponent. Whip of Erebos will also see heavy play in Standard and be appearing in many Commander decks.
