Which Suburban Chicago Public Libraries are Open Tuesday? Which are Closed?

All branches of the Evanston Public Library and Oak Park Public Library are also open. The Eisenhower Public Library District’s library, which serves Norridge and Hardwood Heights, is open.

The Niles Public Library, Morton Grove Public Library, Cicero Public Library, La Grange Public Library, and the Arlington Heights Memorial Library are open. The Palatine Public Library District, which serves Palatine and part of Hoffman Estates, is open. The Schaumburg Township District Library – which serves parts of Schaumburg, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Roselle, Elk Grove Village, and Streamwood in Cook County – is open.

The Lemont Public Library District announced would open Tuesday, but late, at 12:00 p.m. The Deerfield Public Library announced it would open late, at 1:00 p.m. This is also true of the Midlothian Public Library; the Grayslake Area Public Library District; the Northlake Public Library District; and the Acorn Public Library District, which operates the library in Oak Forest, Illinois.

The Brookfield Public Library is open, but it is closing early, at 5:00 p.m. This is also true of the Tinley Park Public Library; the Palos Park Public Library; and the Grande Prairie Public Library, which is in Hazel Crest.
The Northbrook Public Library remains closed. It will re-open on Wednesday, January 8, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. The American Theological Library Association in Chicago is closed.

Up in Lake County, the Vernon Area Public Library District, which serves Lincolnshire and parts of Buffalo Grove, is closed. The Barrington Area Public Library District (BAPLD) – which serves all or part of Algonquin, Barrington, Barrington Hills, Deer Park, Fox River Grove, Hoffman Estates, Kildeer, Lake Barrington, Lake Zurich, North Barrington, Palatine, Port Barrington, South Barrington, Tower Lakes, and some unincorporated areas – is open.

In adjacent McHenry County, the Huntley Area Public Library District, which serves all of Huntley, parts of Lake in the Hills and Algonquin, and portions of Grafton, Rutland and Coral Townships, is closed. The Algonquin Area Public Library District, which serves most of Algonquin and Lake in the Hills, is open. The Harvard Diggins Library in Harvard is open, but closing early, at 5:00 p.m. The Fox River Grove Library District, which operates the Fox River Grove Memorial Library, is open.

In Kane County, the Geneva Public Library District is open. The St. Charles Public Library is open.

A small part of Schaumburg, a large part of Hanover Park, part of Elgin, and most of Streamwood in Kane County are served by the Poplar Creek Public Library District, based in Streamwood, which is open. However, Toddler Science was cancelled.

The larger part of the city of Elgin is in Kane County and served by the Gail Borden Public Library District. [It also serves most, but not all, of South Elgin; and parts of Bartlett, Streamwood, and Hoffman Estates, as well as some unincorporated territories.] Its Main Library is open, but the Rakow Branch is closed until heat can be restored.

In west suburban DuPage County, I just confirmed the Bartlett Public Library District re-opened the Bartlett Public Library. The Lisle Library District’s library remains closed.

The Bloomingdale Public Library is open. However, the Bloomingdale Mayor’s Advisory Council will not meet.

All three branches of the Naperville Public Library are open Tuesday and will close early at 5:00 p.m. The Glenside Public Library in Glendale Heights is open.

The Woodridge Public Library is open, but the insurance agent David Wylly is not going to review the Affordable Care Act tonight as planned. He will speak on Thursday night, however.

Out in Kane County, the Town & Country Public Library in Elburn is closed. The Messenger Public Library in North Aurora is open. All four branches of the Aurora Public Library are open, but the bookmobile is not running. The Creston-Dement Library in Creston, Illinois in western Ogle County is closed.

Down in exurban Will County, the Beecher Public Library is closed. The Fountaindale Public Library District in Bolingrbook is open.

The Forest Park Public Library is open. The Steger-South Chicago Heights Library is open. The University Park Public Library is open, but will close early at 5:00 p.m. Both branches of the Joliet Public Library are open.

In Northwest Indiana, the Hammond Public Library is closed. O’Gara & Wilson – which closed in Hyde Park last year after operating in Chicago for 131 years (100 of them in Hyde Park), and re-opened in Chesterton, Indiana – jokingly announced, “We'll remain closed today, Tuesday the 7th. But we'll be open for business tomorrow, if God is willing and the creek don't rise. Which it won't, because it's frozen solid.”
