According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the average American woman's height is 63.8 inches and she weighs 164.7 pounds. However, many women are not satisfied with this weight, which averages to be about a size 12 or 14. Instead, she strives to become a much smaller size, such as a size 4. Yet, even at a size 4, many women are still not satisfied and continue to lose more weight to become a size 2.
Sadly, Americans have allowed the media and Hollywood to distort their judgment on what a healthy woman should weigh and how she should look. Numerous women have become perilously obsessed with their dress and pant size and what the scale says. This often leads to eating disorders and grave illnesses.
According to the article, 'Weight Management - Are You At a Healthy Weight,' posted on March 17, 2011 at WebMD, a healthy weight largely depends on an individual's body type and height. The WebMD Article further states that there is no 'ideal' body shape or body size and agrees that many in America have allowed society to dictate what an 'ideal' body size should look like resulting in scores of women wanting to be a size 4 or 2.
Most would agree that a woman who is obese has reached an unhealthy weight and is at risk of significant health problems. On the contrary, however, it is also vital for women to realize that an unhealthy weight can also be a size 4 or 2 depending on a woman's body type and height. Therefore, not every woman needs to be a size 4 or a size 2.
It is wise, of course, to watch your calorie intake and to eat healthy and nutritious meals in order to attain and maintain a healthy body weight. However, when a woman becomes obsessed with watching her diet to become smaller, the obsession to become much smaller than what she really should be could become as hazardous to her health as a woman who overeats and becomes obese.
According to Baptist Health Care, an individual's healthy weight is the weight that her body naturally settles into when she consistently eats nutritious meals, is physically active, and balances the calories that she eats according to her physical activity.
