Where in Washington to watch Obama's State of the Union

dc.metromix.com

While many people will tune in to tonight's State of the Union address from home, some Washington bars and restaurants are also hosting viewing parties for politically-minded patrons.

The first State of the Union of Barack Obama's presidency is scheduled to begin at 9:00 PM from the United States Capitol.

Ventnor Sports Cafe hosts its annual SOTU viewing party and drinking game beginning at 5:30 PM. Walking into the bar, visitors will pull a buzzword, like "Afghanistan" or "healthcare," out of a bowl." Each time your word is mentioned in Obama's speech, you get a $1 shot.

Busboys and Poets has a pre-SOTU open mic and viewing party. These events will take place at all three restaurant locations: 14th and V, Shirlington, and 5th and K. Share your opinions on Barack Obama's first year in office -- and what you hope to hear in his annual address -- before watching the speech live.

"A View from 1600," at Z Lounge at the Sports Club/LA, begins with a two-hour cocktail reception before the actual address. The event hopes to bring young people together to discuss important social issues that may be mentioned by Obama.

Expect Capitol Hill's bars to be packed with Hill staffers and political junkies. Hawk 'n' Dove, Bullfeathers and Tortilla Coast are reliable stand-bys.

After the speech, enjoy a late dinner or nightcap at The Capital Grille, a favorite Congressional hangout. Located just blocks from the Capitol, you might even bump into a few Representatives grabbing a late-night snack after the SOTU.
