There are many places to see lights for the holidays. Windcrest, TX is a great place to see blocks and blocks of decorated neighborhoods. University of the Incarnate Word and the San Antonio River Walk are also free places to drive or walk to see the lights. Windcrest, TX
The official city hall “Light Up” ceremony begins at 6 p.m. on December 15. The city is outside Loop 410 on the Northeast side between Randolph Air Force Base and Fort Sam Houston. This is the place to go to see neighborhoods lit up. Each year the 5000 residents have entire blocks of houses decorated with lights. One of the residents, Bruce Womack, has set up 75,000 lights synchronized to music. It is a sight to see.
University of the Incarnate Word
The campus trees are lit and stay lit up until January 6. Drive through the campus and see the lights as well as the “Light the Way Display Board Contest.” You can also park and walk through for a beautiful evening.
River Walk
The lights are on at the River Walk. It is elaborately decorated along the river walk with bridges, trees, and stores lit up! The surrounding area is also lit up so take a drive and then park and walk the River Walk.
Santa’s Ranch
For a fee ($22 per car) you can drive through an entire park of light displays. This is 20 miles north of San Antonio. Go to their website and print their coupon for $2 off. They have over 100 displays, animations, and 1 million lights.
Sea World
Sesame Street presents “Lights, Camera, Imagination” in a 4-D movie. At the end of the day, at the entrance plaza is a guest sing-a-long and special effects.
Fiesta Texas
The decorated park presently has 5 holiday shows: Happy Holidays! Show, Have Yourself a Looney Tunes Christmas, Magical Musical Light Show, Rockville Dickens Carolers, and The Majesty of Christmas.
