Where to enjoy small town Christmas events in Colorado

The charms of small towns in Colorado really shine in the Christmas season. Here's a look at some of the events taking place this holiday season in quaint Colorado towns...

Olde Golden Christmas Candlelight Walk -- Friday, December 4, 2009

  • Experience the beauty of the season as you walk down the main street of Golden, candle in hand, singing holiday carols. Hot beverages, eggnog and entertainment will be provided at several businesses and cultural facilities. After the parade children will enjoy petting the live reindeer in the parking lot of the Visitors Center. Festive dress is encouraged. Gather at Foothills Art Center 6:00pm at 15th  and Arapahoe Street, for caroling. Free.

Olde Golden Christmas on Parade – Saturdays: December 5, 12 and 19

  • See a true Olde Fashioned Hometown Parade with floats, clowns, Christmas characters, music and Santa.  Washington Avenue from 11:00 to 11:30am on the first three Saturdays in December. There's also free horse-drawn carriage rides those days, weather permitting.

Georgetown Christmas Market - December 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th from 10am-5pm

  • Experience a place where Christmas hasn't changed in 100 years: roasted chestnuts, holiday shopping, horse-drawn wagon rides through historic Georgetown. Visitors enjoy appearances by St. Nicholas in his traditional dress and the daily procession of the Santa Lucia, as well as carolers in Victorian costume, dancers, and other family entertainment. Miramont Castle’s Victorian ChristmasNovember 27-29

  • Enjoy the wonders of a true Victorian holiday, the castle is lavishly decorated, there are a an abundance of refreshments and entertainment. Admission during the three-day Christmas celebration: Adults $10, Seniors aged 60+ $9 Children aged 5-15 $6.

Old Colorado City’s Rocky Mountain Christmas – November 27 - December 24

  • Santa’s workshop in the middle of town, street entertainment, free parking and shopping with extended hours. 

Evergreen 18th Annual Holiday Walk - December 4, 2009, 5-9pm

  • It all begins at 5:00 pm at the Lake House with the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus, caroling, the tree lighting ceremony and the walk into town with Santa. Get your picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus from 6:30 - 9:00 PM (for a nominal fee). Enjoy holiday music, the Walking Christmas Tree, horse drawn trolley rides and much more free entertainment up and down Main Street. Refreshments are served at the many shops and galleries with activities and specials for young and old alike.
