Believe it or not, there are some hidden places to eat good Mexican food even though New York is not exactly known for it. So on this Cinco de Mayo, treat yourself, a date, or a group to some Mexican treats. Here are the recommendations to start the night before drinking all the maragaritas for the evening.
Castro's, located at 511 Myrtle Avenue in Brooklyn, has the best food for the price. The burrito is much better than any chain burrito places and the ingredients are better. The burrito itself is huge and it is piping hot when it gets to the table. Best part is that it stays hot the whole time it's being eaten. Even the cheese on the inside is melted and not hard. The burrito is served with guacamole, and of course no Mexican meal is complete without a Mexican beer, such as Modelo.
Also on Cinco de Mayo, doors will open at noon at Salvation Taco for those lucky enough to be off school or work on this Mexican holiday in Manhattan. They will have food, such as tacos and tamales. And who can forget drink specials on margaritas? Since they have a rooftop, hopefully the weather will cooperate and it will be almost as refreshing sa the beaches of Mexico as that margarita is consumed.
Tickets can be ordered online for The Bar Room's Burger Week event which also is on Cinco de Mayo this year. Get a three course Mexican inspired meal, including a Mexican themed burger, a tequila shot, and a Dos Equis cocktail.
Since it is early, this list could grow. Feel free also to add your favorite Mexican food to eat in New York City as well.
