Colorado is celebrating Halloween with fun stuff all month long. Here's a look at some of the highlights...
Durango
The historic Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad will again host a ride in search of the Great Pumpkin. After a ride along this narrow gauge route, families detrain at a pumpkin patch, where they'll be met by Charlie Brown, Lucy and Snoopy. But there’s more to the activities than selecting a pumpkin for this year’s jack-o-lantern, live music, bouncy play structures, trick-or-treating and a hay-bail maze will add to the delight of visiting families. Peanuts: The Great Pumpkin Patch Express runs on October 10-11, 17-18, 24-25 and 31 this year. For reservations, ticket prices and more info visit www.durangotrain.com.
Colorado Springs
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s Boo at the Zoo is the largest Halloween celebration in Colorado Springs! Attracting upwards of 16,000 kids, this event showcases dozens of treat stations throughout the Zoo, a not-too-scary scarecrow house, a lighted pumpkin path, magic shows, carnival games, a special Boo Theatre and, of course, lots of animal encounters. October 16 – 18, 23-25, details at www.CMZoo.org.
Fort Collins
The city of Fort Collins hosts Treatsylvania Trick-Or-Treat Street at The Farm at Lee Martinez Park on October 23 and 24 from 6:00-8:00pm and October 25 from 1:00-3:00pm and 5:30-7:30pm. The Farm at Lee Martinez Park allows children to pet and feed barnyard animals as well as take seasonal hayrides and pony rides along the Poudre River. At Halloween, Little trick or treaters won't want to miss this haunting event. "Eerie" activities include a trick or treat street, a not so spooky haunted house, hayrides and cookies for everyone. Jack-o'-lanterns will guide your path to an evening of Halloween fun. Admission is $5 in advance for youngsters 10 and under. There is no charge for adults.
On Friday October 30 from 10am to 1pm, the Fort Collins Downtown Business Association hosts Tiny Tot Halloween in Old Town Square. Young children meet in the square at 10 am and receive special goody bags and from there "trick or treat" around the downtown area.
