Where they stand: points after Phoenix

See also

The 2014 NASCAR Nationwide Series may only be two races old, with events at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway and Phoenix International Speedway completed. With Daytona races being considered somewhat of "wild cards," there has really only been one "regular" race, that being the March 1 Blue Jeans Go Green 200 at Phoenix. That being said, it's never too early to begin looking at the championship points standings.

Only one of the two completed races was won by a Nationwide Series championship-eligible driver -- Regan Smith with his win at Daytona. Sprint Cup Series regular Kyle Busch went to victory lane most recently at Phoenix.

With only two races down and 31 to go, it's too early to really consider anyone a championship front-runner, and there are a lot of drivers close at or near the top of the championship standings.

With his win at Daytona, Smith leads the way with 83 points, but Trevor Bayne is only five points back in second. As mentioned previously, Smith is the only championship-eligible driver with a win, but he's one of three drivers with a top-five finish, the other two being Bayne and Elliott Sadler, who is third in points, only six points behind Smith and a single point behind Bayne. All three of those drivers, plus series rookie Ty Dillon have finished in the top-10 in both of the races, so far.

Here's a look at the official top-10 in the Nationwide Series points standings following the race at Phoenix:

1. Regan Smith, 83 points
2. Trevor Bayne, 78 points
3. Elliott Sadler, 77 points
4. Ty Dillon, 71 points
5. Dylan Kwasniewski, 67 points
5. Brendan Gaughan, 66 points
7. Chase Elliott, 64 points
8. Brian Scott, 60 points
9. James Buescher, 60 points
10. Mike Wallace, 55 points
