Where they stand: Nationwide Series points after Texas Motor Speedway

With his win of the O'Reilly Auto Parts NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Texas Motor Speedway near Fort Worth on Friday night, rookie Chase Elliott moved to the top of the heap -- the Nationwide Series championship points standings. He leads Regan Smith, the only other series championship-eligible driver to win this year, by a scant two-point margin. Also, Elliott is one of only two series regulars to have to his credit two top-five finishes in the first six races of 2014. Elliott Sadler, who is fourth in points, is the other. Nationwide rookie Ty Dillon is in third. Elliott and Dillon are among four rookies in the top-10, with the other two being Kwasniewski and Chris Buescher.

Here's a look at the top-10 in the Nationwide Series championship points standings after Texas, six races into the 33-race season:

1. Chase Elliott
2. Regan Smith, -2
3. Ty Dillon, -10
4. Elliott Sadler, -16
5. Trevor Bayne, -18
6. Brendan Gaughan, -31
7. Brian Scott, -32
8. Dyan Kwasniewski, -45
9. James Buescher, -48
10. Chris Buescher, -85

With such a large number of Sprint Cup regulars in most Nationwide Series events, the owner points standings in the series vary greatly from the driver points standings. For example, the No. 9 driven by Elliott is sixth in owner points and the No. 7 driven by Smith is in seventh, despite those two drivers being the top-two in the driver standings.

In the owner standings, the No. 54 of Joe Gibbs Racing leads the way, followed by the No. 22 of Team Penske in second. Here's a look at the top-10 teams in owner points after Texas:

1. Joe Gibbs Racing No. 54 Toyota
2. No. 22 Team Penske Ford, -14
3. No. 42 Turner Scott Motorsports Chevrolet, -16
4. No. 5 JR Motorsports Chevrolet, -22
5. No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, -40
6. No. 9 JR Motorsports Chevrolet, -41
7. No. 7 JR Motorsports Chevrolet, -43
8. No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, -51
9. No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, -57
10. No. 6 Roush Fenway Racing Ford, -59

The Nationwide Series returns to action Friday night at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.
