Where they stand: Nationwide Series points after Richmond

After finishing second to NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Kevin Harvick at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway on Friday night and, therefore, being the highest-finishing championship-eligible driver, Chase Elliott maintained his position atop the Nationwide Series championship points standings. His second-place finish on Friday followed two-consecutive wins, all within the first eight races of the 2014 season. Also worth noting -- Elliott has finished in the top-10 in all but one of the races, so far, this season.

Elliott has a 19-point lead on second-place driver, Regan Smith, who just so happens to be Elliott's teammate at JR Motorsports and the only other series regular to make his way to victory lane, so far, this season, winning the season opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February. Smith has finished in the top-10 in all eight races, so far.

Here is the complete top-10:

1. Chase Elliott
2. Regan Smith, -19
3. Elliott Sadler, -23
4. Ty Dillon, -35
5. Trevor Bayne, -39
6. Brian Scott, -48
7. Brendan Gaughan, -74
8. James Buescher, -84
9. Dylan Kwasniewski, -101
10. Ryan Reed, -109

Despite topping the driver standings, Elliott's No. 9 JR Motorsports team isn't leading the way in the owner standings. Instead, the No. 9 team is back in fifth, trailing teams the predominantly utilize the driving services of Sprint Cup Series drivers. The No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota team leads the way in the owner standings with Kyle Busch, primarily, behind the wheel. Here is a look at the owner standings after eight races:

1. No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota
2. No. 5 JR Motorsports Chevrolet, -19
3. No. 42 Turner Scott Motorsports Chevrolet, -20
4. No. 22 Team Penske Ford, -23
5. No. 9 JR Motorsports Chevrolet, -35
6. No. 7 JR Motorsports Chevrolet, -54
7. No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing toyota, -57
8. No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, -58
9. No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, -70
10. No. 6 Roush Fenway Racing Ford, -74
