Commuters in Milwaukee know how many "Recall Scott Walker" signs are sprouting in local lawns. But those who don't have the opportunity to commute all over southeastern Wisconsin may not know where else the recall campaign is picking up steam.
Although Waukesha County, over-all, was one of Walker's strongest bases of support in November 2010, recall signs are popping up in New Berlin, Waukesha, Brookfield, and Menominee Falls. Along Duplainville Road near Waukesha, there is a clever hand-made sign reading "Walker's not a Badger, He's a Weasel."
Driving through Watertown, Johnson Creek and Fort Atkinson, anyone will see a growing number of signs for the campaign to "Reclaim Wisconsin" from the Walker administration. This is a fast turnaround from the Walker campaign slogan, "Believe in Wisconsin again."
In rural Sheboygan County there are a couple of "I Stand With Walker" signs, and a couple of resurrected 2010 campaign signs (the really LARGE ones), posted by people who have NOT changed their minds. But for the most part, signs for either side are notably absent. The most common yard sign visible is "For Sale." The next most common is "Keep Christ in Christmas." Recall Walker? Stand with Walker? Neither one is expressed much.
In the most distant Milwaukee exurbs in northern Ozaukee and southern Sheboygan counties, recall signs are few and far between, and run both for and against the governor, in about equal numbers. But recall signs are sprouting on lawns and posted in windows as far north as Belgium.
During the last cold snap, just before the light snowfall, a brave soul wrapped in jacket, hat and scarves could be seen while driving through Oconomowoc, on a corner near the public library, providing an opportunity for people to "Sign here to recall Scott Walker."
There are, of course, signs standing with Walker in front of some of the wealtheir mansions by the lakes. Out on a rural road, there is even a brand new instant McMansion with a car in the driveway dispaying a bumper sticker that says "I Miss Reagan."
