If you haven't heard about the Dame's Dinner Club you are missing out. Three nights a week a complimentary 3 course meal is served up to unescorted ladies. Tuesday at Sfuzzi's Uptown, Wednesday at The Standard Pour and Thursday at Villa O. The only requirement, other than being sans gentlemen, is making a reservation.
Last week the ladies and I took advantage of girl time and great grub at The Standard Pour. With a beautiful balmy breeze and prime seats on the patio we couldn't have been happier.....unitl we saw the menu.
Our first choice was Arugula & Red Leaf Salad with blue cheese, toasted grape tomatoes, walnuts and huckleberry vermouth vinaigrette or Sweet Potato Soup with bacon and garlic butter croutons. We all chose the salad. I attribute that mostly to the warm evening. Entrees were a choice of Balsamic Fig pasta with pancetta and grilled pumpkin or Seared Trout with spicy tomato & kumquat jam, braised leeds, white wine garlic sauce and fingerling potatoes. The table was evenly split between these two. Pasta is something I usually avoid, so trout was my choice. Dessert was a perfectly sized Grilled Pound Cake with cinnamon bourbon peaches, honey bourbon ice cream and lemon thyme oil. All pared well with the light Oregon pinot noir that was suggested by the gentleman at the bar.
The meal, location and company were perfect. I did note that it was the largest group of ladies I have ever seen in one spot, save the ladies only events. I gather the free dinners are meant to spark business and draw more bar spending men due to the inordinate amount of ladies in the building. I find, however, that it seemed to be the one place the boys aren't in Uptown. Ladies, flock to the Dame's Dinner Club before the men find out.
