The "Real Housewives of DC" premieres tonight on Bravo at 9 pm ET, and though the show is firmly rooted in one of America's most diverse cities, that doesn't seem to affect the make up of the show's cast.
On "Real Housewives," only one cast member--Stacie Scott Turner--is black. That isn't atypical of reality shows, which normally don't like casting more than two racial minorities per season, but for a show set in "Chocolate City," the lack of black women--or women of color in general--is inexplicable.
In fact, Stacie is already feeling the pressure of being the "token black woman."
"I'm sure there was some expectation that there would be more African-American housewives," said Stacie, who spoke to Zap2it.com.
Is it possible that Bravo deems it uncessary to cast more than one African American female on its D.C-based show because they already have a predominately black cast in the "Real Housewives of Atlanta?" For a network that's so ahead of the curve regarding its acceptance of homosexuals, the answer is sadly yes.
Voice your thoughts below. And catch the "Real Housewives of DC" tonight at 9 pm ET on Bravo.

The lack of diversity in the RHW-DC is offensive. The show is not representative of DC at all. Not sure what they were thinking. D.C. is STILL the Chocolate City.
Real diversity should include "housewives" of Asian and Latin descent. Then again, maybe they have too much class to participate in such shenanigans.
oh my god!seriously?!
and so there is only one lack women and?! in my opinion they should not cast even her...she doesnt belong in that reality show. And besides in all of their shows they have only whites and blacks. So be happy there is a black women on the show and shut up!
seriously, you're reading WAY to far into the show. give it a rest.
dude get over yourself the whiny " poor me i'm black" crap is out get over it!!! and yes you do have black women on RHOA, perhaps you should write about how stupid these shows are instead of trying to play a race card, we don't care black white Asian Hispanic, stupid is stupid
Excellent article. Everyone I know who watched the show is thinking and saying the same thing: How do you go into a city that is so overwhelmingly African American, but manage to cast so many bony, wannabe elitist white women and then have the nerve to have "Real" in the show's title? Change we can believe in? Not in network television.
