According to The Christian Science Monitor on Mar. 10, another flight crashed in 2009 over the Atlantic, but debris was found in a couple of days.

It's been three days since Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 disappeared over the Gulf of Thailand.

Where is Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370? The plane sent out a distress call. There was no sign of any bad weather. In the case of the Air France flight there were clues that aided in both locating the wreckage and finding out what had happened thanks to an on-board system known as the Aircraft Communication Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS).

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 had no system like ACARS. So far the airline has declined to share any information of this type even if it were available. It is thought that this type of information would help in finding the plane.

Search teams are now widening the area in which they are looking for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 to include not only the Gulf Thailand, but also the Strait of Malacca. Military radar data was released that indicate the flight may have turned back at some point. Speculation as to what may have happened now ranges from a bombing, hijacking or a pilot taking the craft on a suicide mission.
