Twenty year old Heather Elvis has been missing from her home in Myrtle Beach, SC since the wee hours of December 17, having last been seen around 2 am, last heard from around 3. Her car was discovered two days later at the Peachtree boat dock. That's really all the information available in this young girls disappearance. It seems as if she has simply just vanished.
It seems things were coming together for Heather. She was working as a restaurant hostess, but was about to start a job as a make up artist at a local hair salon, a field she had always hoped to enter. She even used her younger sister, Morgan, as a model. "[My hair's] been all sorts of colors just because she used to experiment a lot. So I went through very, very different colors. She loves anything with art. She did photography for a little bit and she designed clothing and then she did cosmetology because she had this dream goal of being the star of her own runway show and filming it and doing all the media coverage for it," said Morgan.
So what are the events that led to her disappearance? Sometime on the day of her disappearance, she had stopped at her parents house and picked up her mail. She went on a date the night that she disappeared, after which she had returned home. Beyond those few details, very little is known about the events of the day. Surely the person she had been out with that evening has been questioned, as well as family members and friends. At this point, authorities likely believe that is not the direction to aim, as none of these people have been detained, as far as the media knows.
With so little to go on, how are they going to find her? The community is hoping to help, by joining together for searches and vigils. Over 100 people showed up Friday morning, despite extremely cold temperatures, to look for the young woman. There have been many searches conducted, with the help of the CUE Center, but nothing relating to this case has been located. A set of skeletal remains were discovered during a search last week, determined to belong to a male over the age of 20, with DNA results expected in several weeks.
Heather Elvis is 5'1", 115 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. If you have ay information about her disappearance, you are asked to contact the Horry County, SC police at 843-915-TIPS. Also, the family requests if you were at or near the Peachtree Landing Boat Dock on December 17 or 18, between 10 pm and 6 am, please call. You may have seen something and not even realized it. There is a $20,000 reward for information leading to Heather's whereabouts.
Hopefully there is a good outcome in this case. If nothing else was learned from the kidnapping victims in Ohio, never give up should have by now become a mantra. After 10 years, those women emerged from what can only be described as a hell on earth, but they are alive.
