Where is Fashion Going?
Where is fashion going? To the average person this question is at the least not important and possibly a waste of time. While yes that may be true in the grand scheme of things we must give credit where credit is due, where would you and or your memories be without fashion??? Fashion has a nostalgic value that we can not deny, and right now we can not deny that the 90’s have returned with all its GLORY!!
Fashion as with history always repeats itself and it is of no real surprise that the 90’s are here and KILLING it. With photo shoot reproductions of the classic 90’s film “Clueless” to the newly release TLC movie that set the fashion, film and music world on FIRE!!! I was able to see the TLC movie and being a child of the 90’s I enjoyed every minute of it, singing along to the songs and reminiscing on the fashion trends of the past and seeing that they are now back in trend and steadily rising!
The 90’s were full of crop tops, baggy clothing, trendy athletic clothing, knee hi socks and the blending of street fashion and high fashion. Hip-hop culture and style too was on the rise and too had a profound effect on the fashion scene. Recently, popular rap artist Kendrick Lamar entitled one of his most popular songs “Poetic Justice” which is a reference to a super successful 90’s film starring Janet Jackson and Tupac; additionally the song sampled a popular 90’s song by Janet Jackson “Anytime Anyplace”. “Poetic Justice” was than covered by emerging artist Elli Ingram, which too goes to show the power and influence of the 90’s.
Needless to say the 90’s where an awesome time for pop culture in general and the trends of now are a testament to that. But where do we go from here? In my opinion the 2000’s didn’t offer much for fashion and less to be emulated for that matter. What era is next up (again) to be re-transformed into the next set of fashion trends? My bet is on the 50’s and 60’s – why? Because there is always a transformation in fashion from over the top and blatant in your face sex(y) to a slightly conservative, subtle form of sexy that tends to take over as the seasons change. Personally, I stick to what fits and works for my body regardless of the trends, now should a trend work into what I already have or is in line with my personal expression well then I am all for it!
The answer to where fashion is going is wherever you want it to! The most important rule of fashion is that there are no rules, do what you like and do what works for you and your body!
Fashion is serious, but not that serious!
