Where is Dakota? - A family's quest to find their missing dog in Croydon, PA (Photos)

Dakota, a 9-month-old Labrador Retriever, went missing from her home on Magnolia Avenue in Croydon, PA on February 23. After being let out with her canine sibling, Timber, for just a few minutes, Dakota disappeared from her fenced backyard.

Neither dog was in the yard when their mom, Anita, called to them. Timber, their Alaskan Malamute, immediately returned; however, Dakota, who is always by Timber's side, did not.

After an exhaustive search of the area that is still continuing, posting flyers, contacting shelters, vet's offices, and sharing on lost-and-found sites (including a Craigslist ad), they have turned up nothing. They've also enlisted the services of Lostmydoggie.com, which delivers lost pet "Amber Alerts" to notify neighbors and businesses in the area.

It appears that Dakota has vanished into thin air.

The family inspected the property for voids in the fence where the dogs could escape, and found none. Although she is not microchipped, Dakota was wearing a collar, tags with her address and phone number, and a dog license tag at the time of her disappearance.

She is extremely friendly, and they are hopeful that someone found her roaming and has taken her in to care for her; that somehow her collar came off and they don't know how to contact the heartbroken family searching for her.

They remain baffled that this laid-back puppy, who never strayed far from their other dog, did not also return when called. She can be anywhere at this point.

Anita states:

"This quest for Dakota has renewed my faith in humanity. I've met total strangers who have stopped what they were doing to actually help look for her or hang flyers. I've received phone calls from people telling me they hope we get her back and they are looking as well. It seems dogs bring people together, even missing ones. I am truly touched by everyone's willingness to help search, offer encouragement, or share their personal lost pet stories. And if the worst happens and we never see Dakota again, I will take comfort in the fact that I did everything I could to find her and made a few new friends in the process."

If you have found Dakota or have any information on her whereabouts, please call Anita at (267) 784-6753. There is a reward for her safe return which is all her devastated family wants - their beloved dog back home.

Please share to help reunite Dakota with her family that misses her terribly.
