Where is America's cannabis capital?

NORML's latest blog names a surprising city as America's number 1 cannabis capital. It's not Boston. Even though I think we are close to it, if not number one for users. The Boston market (unlike  Denver, the city that NORML named #1) is still 100% underground.

Some have called it the "green rush".

As predicted by many in marijuana reform, a brain drain is on, to the first states that have adopted reasonable medical marijuana laws. Some of the best and brightest young folks have or are planning to move to states with better laws on marijuana. To California, Maine, Rhode Island, and yes to Colorado. I know some who have left and others who are making plans to do the same. Leaving MA and New York. The states that legalize it first will continue to gain new workers that are the best and brightest contributors to their community? You want a vibrant arts and music scene? Open medical marijuana dispensaries in Boston. It's creating a boom in Denver, Boulder, Los Angeles, and Oakland.

Have you recently or are you planning to move to a state with better laws on marijuana?

Yes, I moved to Colorado to be safer. As a caregiver(master gardener) I am taking advantage of the green rush and doing very well. If I only had the time to do it all.

If my state does not pass a medical marijuana law, I will have to move. I am getting older, as we all are. As we get older, our cannabinoid system, the basis of all life, no longer produces as many cannabinoids. Since cannabinoids support endocrine functioning and the endocrine system produces hormones, lack of cannabinoids ultimately means lack of hormones. When we are out of hormones, we die.

I am not willing to die waiting for antiquated prohibition laws to be repealed. If I have to, I will go where the laws support life and where I can live productively and creatively.

Just moved to Portland because of the laws. We have the highest limits out of all 13 states that have medical marijuana laws. Sleep easier at night not having to look over my shoulder.

New York City is the original cannabis capital of the US; why do you think it's original name was New Amsterdam? Sure it might have strict laws against possession/cultivation/etc, but you just have to watch Half Baked to know NYC has a thriving pot culture; that delivery guy stuff is no joke. Plus we knocked down the Rockefeller drug laws this year too so we're on the right track.

The 13 States have all seen benefits from legal medical marijuana, so imagine what a positive impact legal weed would have on the city of New Orleans? I recently published an article called "New Orleans as Marijuana Mecca" (see: www.reefersmoke.com). It's all part of the platform of one man running for Mayor of New Orleans and I, for one, think it's a genius idea!

Hey thanks for all the comments on this article. Nice to hear from people's stories. Will check that piece on New Orleans, what a great idea for that city. It's already a smokin' even with the police who will crucify you on Bourbon street for lighting up a joint, just like NYC which is the same. Both NYC and NO are cannabis capitals. HIGH TIMES in NYC! And I'm still trying in MA, hope in next few elections we work the ballot initiative, after our decrim win, it's just a matter of funding and time. Or I'm moving to RI, Maine, or maybe California, Oregon, Boulder like the rest of you.

Im in Tennessee, which oddly enough is the 2nd largest producer of pot by state. My family once we sell our house and other properties plans on moving to Cali. The laws in Tennessee are way too arcane and its also consodered the bible belt and theres alot of elderly voters,so change is slow here.
