Where have you gone, Alan Berg? The Boring Crisis in Media

Denver: “My main mission is to make media better. That goes for Christian, mainstream and general market,” that’s what I told a group of media professionals this morning, but do I mean it?

Denver media mirrors so many top 50 media cities because it falls under the network madates with attempts to make news and entertainment locally relevant. This works for people who don't want too much substance, but the newscasts and radio content largely lack originality and that is harmful to all of our health! There are notable exceptions. KHOW-760 has Boyles, The Trouble Shooter, Tom Martino and Caplis and Silverman. KOA boasts Dave Logan, Mike Rosen, Michael Brown and John Caldera. While the local banter can help round out the national syndicates such as Rush and Hannity, and Savage and Dave Ramsey, there still is the danger of digging up stories for the sake of ringing the phones. It's interesting to think what Alan Berg would have sounded like and what he would have been talking about at this juncture. One sure thing, the current long-time Denver radio personalities have never been able to match Berg's wit and intellegent banter.

“Right now radio, TV, and film have become boring. More stations- less content, more air-less substance! The challenge is to draw them in.” So what? What can you do about it? Do you have a plan? I asked myself.

“I wake up every morning to make a dent in finding programming that will be more interesting, relevant and compelling,” I tell myself in no uncertain terms. I can tell that I am on a roll and so I ask myself what are the ramifications for really boring media? I’m surprised at my answer, I didn’t know I was that smart.

Is Boredom the Cause of Pornography?

“Marriages and Families: We have people who are addicted to non-relational sex, and virtual sex. Why do some turn to pornagraphy? Because they’re bored!” I continue, “Thousands of channels of air and broadband with more fluff than you can shake a stick at.” Integrated Media is combining technology with impact medias such as what we read, what we listen to and what we view. If Christian Media embraced Digital Publishing, HD Radio, and Film on demand then Biblical Content could be King, Systematic Theology could be practiced and Evangelistic outreach could influence the world. Now that we have that solved, what was Peter Boyles saying about Denver's new Mayor Hancock?
