A Daily Word from the Word for Thursday, March 27, 2014
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me [Jesus]. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” – John 14:1-3
Is your heart troubled, my brother? Has your belief system been shaken, my sister? Where you dwell has a lot to do with the condition and conditioning of your heart. We are to be “in the world, but not of the world” (Romans 12:2). When you let the world come inside of you, which is being of the world, then you are letting your heart be troubled.
To be “troubled,” as used in this verse, is tarasso (pr. tar-as-o), and means “to stir or agitate (roil water)” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). According to Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, to “roil” is to “stir up, disturb, to move turbulently, to make turbid [dirty] by stirring up sediment or dregs.” If you allow the world to get inside of you, then the world and its ways become the dwelling place of your heart; and your heart is troubled because the residue and waste of the world is constantly being stirred up and contaminating your thoughts, feelings, and mind (which are fed by the heart).
As sons and daughters of the Most High Father, our dwelling place needs to be in His kingdom. Our Father’s house is okia (pr. oy-kee-ah), which is “a residence, a literal or figurative abode, a family.” Webster’s Dictionary defines “abode” as “where one abides.” Jesus gives us directions to our dwelling in John 15:4, as the Holy Compass proclaims “Abide in Me [Jesus], and I in you.”
In our Father’s house are many “mansions,” which are the mone (pr. mon-ay)—“a staying, dwelling, residence.” While we expectantly wait for our physical dwelling place with our Most Holy Creator, every born-again believer already possesses the spiritual kingdom, God’s Holy Spirit, within. The Apostle Luke testifies of this truth, as He shouts from the windows of Heaven: “Neither shall they say, Lo here! Or, lo there! For, behold, the kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:21).
Where you dwell determines what dwells in you. Are you ready to move into your Daddy’s house, where you can dwell in the love and security of your Father’s arms, my brother? Have you had enough of living in the world’s chaotic apartment complex, and ready to flow in your Father’s peace that surpasses all understanding, my sister? Well, then let’s go! I’ve already got the U-Haul parked out front! On second thought, let me return it. Your Father has brand-new furnishings for you: from fresh new robes to comfortable couches and beautiful bedrooms. Only the best for His children will do!
Father, thank You for preparing a place for us. Thank You for taking such good care of Your children, that we always have all the comforts of home, because we live in Your home. Help us to stay above the fray of the world by dwelling in Your high place. Help us to be effective for Your Kingdom without being affected by the world. In Jesus Name, we thank You that our hearts are always filled with peace, love, joy, goodness, gentleness, kindness, and every Fruit of Your Spirit, because we abide in You. Amen and Amen.
Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose every day to not let your heart be troubled. Choose to continually walk in God’s Fruit of His Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Abide always in Jesus Christ, Who made a way out of no way through the Cross at Calvary. And continue to fight the good fight of being in the world, but not of the world; for God, your Secret Place, has already given you the victory!
If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
