Where are they now? Texans running back Darius Walker

Darius Walker       (nfl.com)

Update:

Updating a previous entry, profootballtalk.com is reporting that Darius Walker has signed a two year deal with the Broncos.

Congrats to Darius on the deal and congrats again on getting that degree.

Here's Broncos Examiner Greg Henry's article on Walker.

What follows is this entry as it originally appeared on April 20:

Usually these 'where are they now' segments are reserved for guys that have retired and moved on to other things.

But this time, we're talking about a 23 year old who spent a significant portion of the last two seasons on the Texans roster and who, according to this report by WSBT TV in South Bend, is about to become the proud owner of a college degree.

We're talking about former Texans running back and Golden Domer, Darius Walker.

The Texans originally signed Walker as a rookie free agent in May of 2007.  Walker alternated between the practice squad and active roster for the past two seasons.

Walker appeared in four games for the Texans in 2007, logging 345 total yards and a touchdown.  He was on the Texans 53-man roster for five games in 2008 but was inactive in those games.

And of course, Darius was the main man behind the "Wednesday's with Walker' video series that appeared on Texans TV during the past two seasons.  If you haven't seen these videos, they are worth a look.

Walker still wants to play in the NFL based on his comments in the WSBT story,

He's young enough and doesn't have a lot of wear and tear.  As a street free agent who is staying in shape, it's likely that he will be invited to an NFL training camp in July.

However, it may not be with the Texans, unless it's as an injury replacement or pre-season depth.

Assuming the Texans draft a running back to complement Steve Slaton, Walker would be a #3 running back at best, competing with Ryan Moats who the Texans signed in October after Walker was waived by the Texans.  I keep hearing Chris Brown is going to be back, but I'm not buying that until I see him play in a game or two, or three.

Good luck, Darius.  And congrats on earning that degree.  It will last a lifetime.
