As you know, I, Lori Bjork, am the L.A. Sightseeing Examiner for examiner.com. It would appear to make sense then for me to write about things I sightsee. I agreed with that statement unconditionally. That is until later during a shower. The shower is where I do most of my "aha" thinking. That's when it occurred to me that there was something I didn't sightsee in downtown Culver City/Culver Hotel area. I was honestly a smidge freaked and concerned at the realization. No coffee shops. Where would Bonnie Hunt get her coffee fix? (assuming she drinks coffee) That's just the kind of caring examiner I am. Plus, I notice coffee shops, especially Starbucks. Let's face it (1) they seem to be everywhere and (2) they used to be my competition. I owned a coffee house in Minneapolis. Sold it ten years ago. But I digress.
I happened to mention this oversight to my Uncle Larry, who I have decided is to me with my sightseeing examiner post as Jimmy Kimmel's Uncle Frank is to him on Jimmy Kimmel Live! (someone I love who is a delightful source of added color commentary and information). Uncle Larry, my mom's brother, loves classic cars. He's lived in the L.A. area his entire over sixty years' life. Did I mention he graduated from Hawthorne High School with Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys? He is a car show frequent flier. He has so many miles; he'll never be able to redeem them all. Get it? Uncle Larry get's round, round, get around, he gets around...L.A. I love you, Uncle Larry.
Here's the kicker. Uncle Larry doesn't drink coffee. Yet he knew there is a Starbucks on the corner of Culver Boulevard and Venice Boulevard, a mere three blocks from the gate entrance for the Bonnie Hunt Show. I was so focused on the Culver Hotel area; I never thought to look there (probably a life metaphor in this somewhere...I'm just sayin'!). Whew! Crisis averted. Bonnie can have her coffee and drink it too!
And I never thought I'd say this but, "Hooray for Starbucks."
P.S. The Lion's Fountain, depicted in this article, is a sight you see at Downtown Culver City by the Culver Hotel.

Lori, Starbuck's may be the most plentiful coffee shop, but not the only one. Lucy Florence Image is located at 5671 W. Pico Blvd. and every Thursday they offer an Internet cafe setting for writers and creative people. From 12 noon to 4 PM each Thursday, customers pay $6.00 for up to 4 hrs of WiFi Internet access, a food item and a beverage. I am an Examiner and frequent this event to hammer out articles. Hope to see you there soon. Their web address is www (dot) lucyflorence (dot) org. It's not in Culver City, but it's not far and it's a wonderfully cool place.
