The autopsy results are in; the late Pastor Zachery Tims died from a heroin and cocaine overdose on August 12, 2011. Family, friends and the many people who experienced the anointed ministry of Zachery Tims have had to relive this tragedy in the media this past holiday season. In response to the release of those autopsy results last month I am republishing this article originally titled "Church, Stop the Cover-Up!" (Published 2011). In the meantime, pray for the Tims children. Pray for the Body Christ.
Will you lukewarm Christians please, please, please STOP with the Judge not that ye may not be judged (Matthew 7:1)? You obviously do not study your Bible. To judge in the context of this Scripture is to separate or to make a distinction between truth and error. Per the author of this text, the standard by which we judge or make a distinction regarding the sins of others will be the same standard by which we will be judged. It does not mean to condemn.
Calling an addict an "addict" is not judging him. The Word of God commands that we judge with righteous judgment (John 7:24). Zachery Tims was an awesome preacher and pastor who was bound by sin. He was anointed to preach the Gospel, but he did not allow the anointing to break the yokes in his life.
Your anger with the NYPD for revealing the presence of "white powder" in Zachery Tims' pocket is misplaced. What could that white powder possibly be? Why do you think it was there? Yes, you have a right to be angry, but your anger needs to redirected. Be angry with the devil. Be angry with Zachery. Let us all be angry with ourselves. Had we held him to a standard of holiness; just maybe... Just maybe if some of those preachers who called Zachery Tims their brother, but turned a blind eye to his vices instead of getting in his face like a real brother would have, just maybe...
Again, if a righteous man turns from his righteousness (right doing and right standing with God) and some gift or providence which I lay before him he perverts into an occasion to sin and he commits iniquity, he shall die; because you have not given him warning, he shall die in his sin and his righteous deeds which he has done shall not be remembered, but his blood will I require at your hand. Ezekiel 3:20
Church, it’s time to STOP THE COVER-UP! The excuse that you are protecting his family and ministry is lame to say the least. Zachery Tims’ children will be fine because they have a godly mother raising them. And as much as he could be, Zachery was a good father. And besides, children are not dummies. They know when something is wrong with Daddy. If your excuse is you don't want to destroy his ministry, well, if it is founded by God then the gates of hell cannot destroy it. Over 30 years ago my father died alone in a hotel room – the indirect result of years of addiction. Unlike Zachery Tims my father had been dead three days before his body was discovered. He was 42 years old and he too left behind 4 children – two boys and two girls.
The death of my dear brother in Christ has left me heartbroken. But the truth is, Zachery Tims died because he sowed to his flesh. This does not take away from the wonderful things that he did for people nor does it make him an awful man. It is however, indicative of his pride and fear which kept him in bondage. People of God, please STOP making excuses for these preachers. They will never change if you keep up with the "No one is perfect... Judge not.... Touch not...." When the Lord told Zachery Tims to begin New Destiny in a hotel room in Florida, IT WAS NOT HIS WILL that Zachery Tims end his ministry in a hotel room in New York!
Church, we must stop the cover-up! There are too many preachers in the Body of Christ who are anointed and addicted! We cannot wait for them to confess, we must snatch them out of the fire and the pulpit if necessary. When my biological brother was strung out on crack, I went to the crack house to get him! Don’t let another preacher go out like Zach! Death on the 37th floor was not Zachery Tims' divine destiny!
