When you are driving, that's all you should be doing!

Picture this: You are driving down a busy highway and you look to your right and see the guy in the car next to you reading the paper while driving! You look to your left and you see a woman in the car next to you painting her toenails while driving. Yes, her toenails! And that's not all: the woman has a cigarette in her mouth! Multi-tasking? Yes, absolutely! Dangerous? Absolutely, without a doubt. Although this sounds crazy to most of us, there are people on the road today that do exactly what I just described. How do I know? I have seen it happen firsthand. Although it may sound absurd and unbelievable, trust me. It does happen! I have witnessed people eating and texting while driving. I have seen people talking to the person next to them, smoking, and doing their makeup while driving. The sad thing is that some of these cars had children and/or babies in the backseat while all of this craziness was going on.

Many people today don't take driving seriously. It is a privilege to be behind the wheel. There are so many people that die each year due to multi-tasking while driving. Driving is a serious responsibility. When a person gets behind the wheel, that individual is putting their own life and the lives of others in danger if they engage in multi-tasking while driving.

In a split second, a person's life or many lives can be over. For what? For the chance to send a text to a friend which can wait. If you have to send a text, pull over and send it. Looking down at your phone for a split second can make the difference between life and death. Reaching for a fallen french fry or a chip while driving can mean the difference between life and death. Paying attention to anything other than the road in front of you while driving can be a decision that negatively impacts the rest of your life.

If you know someone who is a driving multi-tasker, speak to him or her and offer suggestions as to how they can postpone certain activities until they are not behind the wheel. Explaining to your loved ones that texts can wait until they are not driving can be crucial. Don't wait to make changes in your life once something terrible and irreversible occurs. Make changes now; you will be happy you did.
