You’d not know it by the weather, which has been below freezing now in Michigan for almost as many days as it’s been winter, but a harbinger of all things warm and thawed is just around the corner: The annual Outdoorama, Feb. 27 to March 2.
Outdoorama is one of a series of outdoors shows that began in January with the Ultimate Sport and Fishing Shows series, the next of which visits Grand Rapids March 20-23, but Outdoorama is the granddaddy of all indoor outdoor shows. For the last 41 years, it's has tantalized lovers of the outdoors of what’s to come when the snow finally leaves. The Michigan United Conservation Clubs began the show in the 1970s, and remains one of the its principal drivers.
Outdoorama sets up at Novi’s four-acre Suburban Collection Showplace with fun for kids, from the “Ultimate Air Dogs exhibition as well as “Wildlife Encounters” courtesy of the Howell Nature Center, to exhibits by charter boat and resort operators and seminars from pro bass, walleye and muskie anglers and experts on field dressing and cooking wild game, to mushroom hunting tips.
An added bonus is the 7th annual Cottage & Lakefront Living Show held at the same time, with lots of home improvement ideas. Show hours are Thursday, 3 to 9:30; Friday, noon to 9:30; Saturday, 10 to 9; and Sunday, 10 to 5. Discount tickets are available at www.outdoorama.com or at participating Wendy’s restaurants.
