When Liberals Attack! The Madness of Maddow

MSNBC commentator and full-time mean girl Rachel Maddow didn't make a name for herself engaging in fair debate or giving the truth a chance. Instead, Maddow sneers from behind her desk and passes judgment on all who fail to meet her worldview requirements. Rather than engaging those she disagrees with on an intellectual level, she marginalizes and belittles them so that their arguments carry no weight.

Consider her recent treatment of Chuck Norris, action star turned political pundit. While Maddow cheers the election of stand-up comic turned Senator Al Franken, she mocks the viability of any opinion or statement Norris makes.

A December 2009 column by Norris addressed the recent passage of a health care bill that provides abortion coverage. He wonders what this world would be like if young pregnant girls of Jesus' time had easy, government-funded access to abortion. He wonders how many future leaders or people of worth would have had their lives snuffed out to avoid the judgment of a society that at the time persecuted or stoned unwed mothers to be.

Norris' exact words were: "What would have happened if Mother Mary had been covered by Obamacare? What if that young, poor and uninsured teenage woman had been provided the federal funds (via Obamacare) and facilities (via Planned Parenthood, etc.) to avoid the ridicule, ostracizing, persecution and possible stoning because of her out-of-wedlock pregnancy? Imagine all the great souls who could have been erased from history and the influence of mankind if their parents had been as progressive as Washington's wise men and women!"

Maddow, of course, was not interested in engaging Norris in a philosophical argument. Since she seems to have no respect for him, she disregarded his overall point and took one word out of context to make Norris and pro-lifers look like fools. She somehow rationalized that Norris' quote suggested that Christians wanted to stone unwed, pregnant mothers. "I look at the whole crux - the whole crux of his argument rests on the idea if only we still had stoning for abortion," she said.

For Maddow, arguing fairly or truthfully isn't the point, only being right is, by any means necessary. Her viewers (which now number in the dozens) don't want to see an even-handed debate. They want a target to direct their hate and frustrations on. Since President Bush isn't around, Chuck will do. This blind hatred for all things conservative even allows them to overlook Norris' obvious point: how many lives of consequence has abortion deprived the world?

Maddow ends her comments on Norris and pro-lifers by saying "It`s beautiful. If we didn't have them, we’d make it up." Too late, Maddow. You already are.

if that's what you got out of rachel's show, then you're as big an idiot as chuck. if you actually watched rachel's show, you'd know that her whole premise is to uncover the truth and confront it. and unlike your hero, chuck norris, what she says actually makes sense. she doesn't need to marginalize him, he does a great job all on his own. get a grip...ditto comment above, are you serious?

I don't care for some of Rachel's editorializing, but Chuck was way out of line with that statement. He started this fight and opened himself well-deserved criticism. Your editorial is pathetic.

Maddow is a hero who uses facts as her weapon of choice.

I don't agree with Raddow all the time, but her show is actually really good. And she is brilliant.

Victor, I am challenging you to name a network pundit who has had more open head-to-head debates live on the air with right wingers than Rachel Maddow.

She might have a left-wing bias, but neither you or I could name a network host who has had more marquee conservative or Republican guests on to make their case, given ample time to speak and out-reason her. Here is a list, shattering your argument to bits:

Pat Buchanan, Dick Armey, Tim Phillips, Tom Ridge, David Frum, Joe Scarborough, McCain campaign rep Nancy Pfotenhauer, Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Jon Henke, Rick Berman, Meghan McCain, Dick Shelby, Sen. Tom Coburn and just this week, Tea Party rep Stephen Gordon.

I await your list of someone who has shown more balance than this on a major network.

Rachel is a refreshing and positive influence on broadcast journalism today. As stated previously above, she has all type of conservative folks on her show and she drives home her point and might I add fairly. She does not attack her guests and in every interview I have watched, has been more than gracious. I think this article was nothing more than an attack on a left wing pundit that the author did not agree with, but chose to attack Rachel herself rather than her conflicting ideologies with his own.

What a crock. MSNBC commentator and full-time nice girl Rachel Maddow has made a name for herself engaging in fair debate and giving the truth a chance. Maddow's show is intelligent and conservatives are asked to debate her nightly. Some do, some don't. Norris has a long body of incoherent ramblngs to reflect on besides trying to take away a woman's right to choose. I'll stick with the pro-choice woman with a degree in public policy and PhD in political science, not the guy who cracked a few too many blocks with his head.

Here's something that Mr. Norris and others seem to fail to realize: terminating a pregrnancy (abortion) is nothing new; abortions have been performed since ancient times (first recorded evidence Egyptian Ebers Papyrus in 1550 BC). Mary would not have needed "Obamacare", she could have easily obtained an abortion on her own.
