When Liberals Attack! Don't Mess With the Obama

When Barack Obama was a senator running for President, it seemed criticizing him could actually pay off. "Crazy Uncle Joe" Biden said Obama was the first African American candidate who was articulate and clean, and he became vice president. Hillary Clinton criticized his experience and said America shouldn't elect someone who needs "on the job" training, and she became secretary of state.

Now that he's President, Obama has turned into Michael Corleone: cross him and pay the price. He holds petty grudges and doesn't forget. Opposing him President could be detrimental to your career. Just ask former marine Tony Perkins.

Perkins is the head of the Family Research Council in Washington and had been invited to speak at the National Prayer Luncheon at Andrews Air Force Base on February 25, 2010. Perkins, who is now an ordained minister, had planned on giving a devotional speech to military members that attended, at least until Barack Obama found out Perkins criticized his call to lifting the ban on gays in the military.

According to Perkins, even though he planned to make no political statements at the luncheon, he received a letter from the chaplain's office at Andrews two days after he made statements against Obama's proposed change. "I received a letter dis-inviting [me] to speak because of the statements that our organization had made. At one level it's disappointing, because as a veteran of the Marine Corps I look forward to opportunities to speak to men and women in the military. But secondly, and much more alarming, is this is a foreshadow[ing], I believe, of things to come if this policy goes forward," he said.

The reprisal against Perkins by the Obama administration could only be the first of many against anyone who speaks out against or morally objects to the gay lifestyle. Those who choose not to share close quarters on the battlefield or at a military base with someone who could find them sexually attractive could be labeled as a bigot and forced out of service.

"This sends...a very chilling message across the ranks of the military, especially among chaplains who have an orthodox view of scripture and of human sexuality," Perkins said. "[They] could very well be on their way out of the military."

Gay rights supporters welcome the move to lift the ban, but fail to see the irony that lifting the ban would suppress the lifestyle choices of the many to provide special privileges to the few. In Obama's bizarro world, however, the move makes perfect sense. The only problem is the opposition. There is no room in his big tent for opposing views.

When evaluating the military's request for more troops, Obama took his sweet time considering it. Now, with more pressing issues on the homefront, he rushes to lift a ban opposed by most of the rank and file military . For those who oppose his point of view, Obama tosses freedom of speech out of the window and reverts to Chicago-style political tactics once again.

I fail to see how the" lifestyle choices" of the majority will be suppressed by allowing open service of gay & lesbian military.Rules of conduct will not be changed -the main difference is that rather than lying about their sexual orientation these men & women will be able to talk about their same gender spouse or significant other.

This article is pure bigotry. Being gay is not a "lifestyle choice" - what an idiotic statement that is not supported by the facts or the science.

This author is simply reflecting his own bigotry. It's a shame really but it's all part of the "high standards" that Examiner requires.

I wholeheartedly believe that most gay hatred is harbored by people who hold similar hatred for people of color as well.

I've witnessed such behavior so many times over the years, I'm convinced that these people are just barely not dangerous to themselves or others.

As for Perkins, he is a bigot extraordinaire. The news of his being dropped from the Air Force function barely made a blip in the news except for some of the blogs, because most people do not give a fig for that sanctimonious hypocrite and could not care less about what he and the other bigots have to say.

I am a conservative republican, have been all my life, and I think that reversing don't ask don't tell is perfectly legitimate. While I do not think there is any way of proving scientifically (the first rule of scientific experiments is don't guess at causality) that gays are "born that way" I do think that allowing them to serve our country but not allowing them to be honest about their orientation is wrong. And just because you have run into some people who are total idiots, being racist AND homophobic, doesn't mean that anyone who happens to think homosexuality is a lifestyle choice is racist OR homophobic. I happen to believe it is a choice, just as who I have sex with is a choice, and that people are responsible for the choices they make sexually. I also think that racism is ugly and evil and that Jesus loves all his children even if we don't always all love each other!
