When Liberals Attack! Another Rotten Thing About Denmark

Normally, we shouldn't even care what Denmark thinks about anything, but when they make complete fools of themselves, it can be fun to read.

Liberals like to think they are intellectual superiors to just about everyone else, especially the riff raff of the average joe. In reality, they are just as susceptible to hero worship as the rest of us. They would like to argue that they favor logic over emotion, so when they turn into mindless cheerleaders for one of their idols, it really is quite pathetic.

Politiken, one of Denmark's largest newspapers, in an editorial on December 28, 2009, proclaimed Obama greater than Jesus for his work on health care reform. The logic employed in the editorial is hard to fathom, but the words speak for themselves:

"His greatest results have been created with words and speeches – words that remain in the consciousness of their audience and have long-term effects. And no we are not thinking of Jesus Christ, whose birthday has just been celebrated - - but rather the President of the United States Barack Hussein Obama."

Perhaps this statement says more of the lack of knowledge and respect the writer has for Christ than it does of his love for Obama. If the writer thinks Christ's greatest accomplishments were in words only, perhaps he skipped the part where he died for all the sins of man and then rose from the dead three days after his crucifixion.

The editorial continues: "From the start, Obama’s critics have claimed that his supporters have idolised him as a saviour, thus attempting to dismantle the concrete hope that Obama has represented for most Americans. The idea was naturally that the comparison between Jesus and Obama – which is something that the critics developed themselves – would be comical, blasphemous, or both." Of course, as America continues to suffer as a result of Obama's policies and actions, the comparison is less comical and blasphemous and more absurd.

The editorial ends with such a stretch of logic and practicality that the argument being put forth implodes upon itself. After claiming that Obama's health care reform will do so much good for so many, the editorial makes this ludicrous comparison: "On the other hand, we have Jesus’ miracles that everyone still remembers, but which only benefitted a few. At the same time, we have the wonderful parables about his life and deeds that we know from the New Testament, but which have been interpreted so differently over the past 2000 years that it is impossible to give an unequivocal result of his work. Obama is, of course, greater than Jesus." Perhaps the Danish, by being so far away from American politics and the debate around the issue, missed the fact that the plan will fail to provide proper coverage for millions and place undue burdens on businesses. Caterpillar will lose $100 million because of the reform, and AT&T will lose $1 billion, despite both companies providing what employees call comprehensive and attractive health care plans.

The paper then goes on to predict that Obama's place in history is assured, thanks to his health care reform plan. How a Danish editorial writer has the capacity to make such a prediction seems absurd, for a country whose greatest gift to the world is Legos.
