The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) has been mailing out fundraising letters on behalf of Bill Clinton accusing the GOP of lying and "playing politics with our lives." Oh my goodness! A politician lying? or a whole political group? Is that even possible? Maybe it is. It's kind of sad and pathetic, but isn't that what we kind of know and suspect from all politicians? And even though it's a sin, isn't that the pot calling the kettle black? Bill Clinton accusing someone else of being a liar? It would almost be laughable if it weren't so hypocritical.
For those who don't remember, it was President Bill Clinton who went on national television, looked the American people in the eye, and insistantly declared those now famous words: "I did not have sexual relations with that woman." This was in regard to the very public accusations by White House intern Monica Lewinski, that the two had an extra-marital affair while Bill was in office. As we all soon discovered, Monica was not lying, Bill was.
President Bill Clinton flat out lied to protect himself, to discredit Monica Lewinski, and to deceive the American people. Why? Because he believed it was in his own best interest. He wasn't lying to protect the security of our country, trying to keep secrets hidden from our enemies in order to prevent innocent lives from being taken. He didn't fib or stretch the truth to protect our military during a time of war. He looked in that camera and did his best to convince millions of men, women, and children that he was telling the truth, when he knew, 100% knew, that he was not telling the truth.
And now he and the Democrats have the gall to send out campaign letters, like the one I received in the mail here in San Diego, with magnets that you can stick onto your family's refrigerator which state "SILENCE GOP LIES." It's almost enough to make one sick. Perhaps it was meant to be an appetite suppressant. Part of the new health care initiative.
Although a significant portion of America is not Christian, Bill Clinton has claimed to be a Christian, even attending a Methodist church on numerous occassions while carrying his Bible. One of the basic tenants of the faith states that we are not to bear false witness against our neighbor. In other words, it is not okay to lie, and it is not okay to falsely accuse other people of lying. The scripture even goes so far as to give this warning: "all liars will have their place in the lake that burns with fire" ~ Revelation 21:8 Maybe Bill Clinton doesn't realize this. Or perhaps he doesn't care. Maybe he doesn't actually believe it. After all, adulterers are supposed to wind up in the same place. So maybe he feels doomed, like it's all downhill from here. Whatever the case may be, I for one am getting fed up with the lies, and I don't believe a liar who says someone else is lying. But wait a minute - wouldn't that mean that the one being accused by a liar of lying is actually telling the truth?
I'm starting to think that the Democrats just don't get it, and they are hoping we will give them even more money before too many eyes start to open to the truth. But what is the truth? According to Bill Clinton: "That depends on what your definition of 'is' is."

Yes, Bill Clinton lied. And while his lies were disgraceful, that disgrace is his to bear, and to bear alone. You conveniently neglect to mention that one of the basic tenets of Christianity is that if you ask, you will be forgiven. How do you know that Mr. Clinton hasn't asked for and received this forgiveness? Also, his lies didn't lead to the deaths of thousands of people...
Perhaps the Democrats could have found a different spokesperson, (I'll give you that), however, many of the things the GOP has been pushing as "truth" have been most definitely proven to be lies.
And lastly, sounds like you're "sitting in judgement"... Isn't that for the realm of the Divine?
to Diane: Asked and received forgiveness from whom? To answer your question, I will say "Yes" if by judgement you mean final judgement. Until then, each of us are called to discern between good and evil, right and wrong, using both knowledge and wisdom in our daily decision making.
