Assault rifles are found hidden between two sheds at a school in Jefferson County. It is expected that the weapons were just there by co-incidence. Thieves stole guns from a home near the school and authorities surmise that perhaps the culprits stashed the guns there and planned to retrieve the weapons at a later date.
This issue of weapons in schools in America has become as bad as an infectious disease. Now when a mother kisses her child good bye and send them off to school it is with valid concern and some trepidation. The 'have a good day speech' should be altered:
‘So, stay away from the bullies and avoid that teacher who might slap you and the other teacher that smokes dope; if you make it past the psycho with the machine gun, see you after school.’
In response to hundreds of incidents across the country, there is talk of having one person at each school who is a trained shooter, ready to spring into action if needed. A weapon would be stored in a secure place accessible to the school shooter- which will turn the title ‘school shooter’ into a positive thing?
Who will be the designated shooter for the school? Surely we can’t expect the kindergarten teacher to take up arms. Maybe the PE teacher would be best suited to the task, in case a struggle could ensue. Think. Make the janitor the trained shooter and catch everybody off guard.
Going to school is no longer a time full of the memories of carefree days of youth.
The promise and wonder of education has been stolen by so many events like Newtown which mirrors the horror of Columbine. All of the numerous incidents of gun violence on school campuses have legislators in a quandry.
As a nation, as individuals, what are we going to do about this epidemic of gun violence? Our students are in the line of fire, at what should be one of the safest places to be for a child. Something must be done about gun control. Make sure everyone has a gun?
Should we all arm ourselves and listen for the ‘click‘, everyone ready to shoot first? When is having a 'school shooter' a good thing? Will a maniac think twice? Sane people must must think twice.
