Last year, Easter was celebrated on March 31. This year, the Christian holiday comes a bit later on April 20, 2014, two days after Good Friday.

Easter always falls on a Sunday because that was the day of Christ's Resurrection. However, it is known as a "moveable feast" so this annual holiday does not have a fixed date. The date varies from as early as March 22 to as late as April 25 each year.

What's open and what's closed on Easter Sunday 2014?

Easter is not a federal holiday, but many retail stores and businesses close or limit their hours. Most banks that are normally open Sunday hours will be closed. However, shoppers will find some stores open if you run out of candy for your Easter egg hunt.

Walmart stores will be open regular hours on April 20; Supercenters are open 24-hours a day. Target, Publix, Sears, most malls and grocery stores will be closed to observe the holiday.

Many Walgreens, Rite Aid and CVS stores will be open regular hours if you need candy, and Easter card, stuffed toy or a basket.

Your best bet for finding groceries for Easter dinner or candy for egg hunts is a Walmart Supercenter because they are open around the clock for shoppers who need groceries and holiday items including baskets, toys, and flowers.
