With the elections over and the brutally expensive campaigns of 2012 just a dim light in the rear view mirror fading fast I have to ask the question, "when do politicians lie?" Do their speech writers intentionally have lies placed into each speech or do the politicians just slide the lies into the speech without ever realizing what they did?
Here is a clip of then Senator Barack Obama in 2006 blasting Congress and President Bush for entertaining the idea on raising the debt ceiling at a time when "America deserves better". Senator Obama was adamant Washington was on the wrong path as those in Congress choose to spend more than the country was taking in. At least on the internet that is what is being said, however I have not found the original speech with his voice on it as of this article.
Today President Obama stated it would be stupid not to raise the debt ceiling at a time when America needs to pay it's bills. So which Barack Obama do we believe and which one do we consider a liar? It is amazing how politicians change their positions to suit their needs with each issue that comes up.
Speaker of the House, John Boehner has held news conference after news conference to tell the world Republicans will not cave into the demands to increase spending which we all know will bankrupt our nation. However after all is said and done at the end of the day he caves into almost exactly what the president wants. During each crisis that we face here in America, Mr. Boehner caves and votes to increase the debt ceiling or spending requested by the Democratically held Senate and the White House.
Before becoming Speaker, John Boehner made one statement on the floor of the House stipulating "we have failed to listen to American and we have failed to listen to the will of our constituents." This statement came during the healthcare reform act. John Boehner made some strong accusations during this speech to which nothing good happened for the people of this great nation.
President Bill Clinton, "I didn't have sexual relations with that woman". President George Bush during his State of the Union address, "the only way to control our destiny is by our leadership so the United States of America will continue to lead." He went on a few paragraphs later "7 thousand miles away could bring murder and destruction to our country, dictatorships shelter terrorists" describing Suddam Hussein and those weapons of mass destruction never found. President Richard Nixon, "in all of my years of public life, I have never obstructed justice." There are so many more examples that could be shown but what would be the resulting conclusion?
Are they lying or are they just expanding the truth to fit their needs at the end of the day. We will be able to judge the outcome of these inaccurate statements made by those elected to serve our country, be our voice and do the right thing for our nation in the next few years.
Common sense tells me they out right hit us with bold face lies every time they open their mouth(s). That goes for the majority of both parties interested in their own futures instead of the future of the Greatest Nation on Earth, these United States of America.
