"When Calls the Heart" has been renewed for a second season by Hallmark Channel, according to an announcement on Hallmark Channel USA's Facebook page. Fans of the romance, dubbed #Hearties, are thrilled that this high-quality show, based on the books by Janette Oke, will be returning to the cable network.
"When Calls the Heart" stars Lori Loughlin ("Full House"), Erin Krakow ("Chance at Romance") and Daniel Lissng as residents of Canadian coal mining town Coal Valley. The series is executive produced by Michael Landon Jr., whose father, Michael Landon, produced and starred in the popular series "Little House of the Prairie." The schedule for the second season of "When Calls the Heart" has not been announced, but it will most likely be aired sometime in 2015.
The first season introduced new schoolteacher Elizabeth Thatcher (Krakow), a high society woman from a wealthy family, who chose to teach school in Coal Valley, a small frontier town in Canada. Elizabeth was taken in by Abigail (Lori Loughlin), an attractive widow who lost her husband and son in the mining accident which killed many of the town's men.
Canadian Mountie Jack (Daniel Lissing), the town constable, fell in love with Elizabeth but there have been obstacles to romance, not the least of which was the appearance of his lively childhood friend and former fiance Rosemary (Pascale Hutton).
In the season one finale Judge Jedidiah Black (guest star James Brolin) traveled to Coal Valley to rule in the case against Gowen (Martin Cummins) and the coal mining company for negligence resulting in tragic deaths. The trial and verdict were not shown, so the outcome was left in the air until the show returns. Will there be justice for Coal Valley?
Bill (guest star Jack Wagner) helped Jack with the investigation into the coal mining accident. It seemed that a romance was blossoming between Bill and Abigail until she spotted a wedding ring on his nightstand.
Hallmark Movie Channel previously announced that Lori Loughlin will star in a series of movies based on the movie "Garage Sale Mystery," so Loughlin will be starring in two different projects for Hallmark. The mystery series joins Hallmark Movie Channel's new Mystery Wheel programming, focusing on mysteries.
Hallmark Channel now has four series on its slates, including "Cedar Cove" which airs its second season this summer; Signed, Sealed and Delivered," which is currently airing its first season; "The Good Witch" series, which premieres in 2015; and "When Calls the Heart."
“When Calls the Heart” is a Believe Pictures and Brad Krevoy Television production. Executive Producers are Brad Krevoy, Brian Bird and Michael Landon, Jr. Based on the novel, When Calls the Heart by Janette Oke.
