Halloween may be an American tradition, but wearing costumes and masks is universal. In Venice, where I come from, we have Il Carnevale di Venezia. Rio De Janeiro has the world famous Mardi Gras. By now you are wondering what this has to do with dating sites, right?
Simple. We all embellish our profile. Maybe we use a photo from when we were much younger, much thinner, in much better shape. We may add a zero to our income, a few inches to our height. Hey, everyone does it. We never use our real name, instead we pick suggestive screen names, we may even expand our geographical location to a better zip code, after all, we drive through it on our way home. By the time we are done we look pretty enticing. We have become a different person, we created our fictional character, or to be kind, we have become our fantasy if only in the Internet world. It’s like wearing a virtual costume. That virtual costume empowers us. We chat more, about subjects we may never dare approach face to face with a stranger. It’s our virtual trick or treat. Try not to get too attached to the gimmick and above all, play safe.
In a great romance, each person basically plays a part that the other really likes
