When a brand disappoints you: Breaking up with 100% Pure

Until earlier this year, if you were to ask me my favorite brand, without hesitation, I would sing the praises of 100% Pure.

Sadly, I have "broken up" with my once favorite brand -- a company I've supported for several years, recommended to friends, family, blog readers...a brand I have truly been loyal to. Until this brand completely disappointed me.

I don't know whether to be sad or mad or disappointed. I didn't know whether to post this or not even...

But I need to.

I used all of the body washes, kids' products, some of their hair care. No more.

Before Christmas, I bought a Buy 1, Get 1 Free Gift Set from 100% Pure's online store.

The kit contained the Acai Berry Facial Cream and the Acai Berry Eye Cream. I bought a set for me and I bought one to give to my mom. I LOVE the stuff. One day, I accidentally grabbed the eye cream and applied it to my face. I didn't know. It FELT exactly the same in terms of consistency. EXACTLY. Hmm. I set the eye cream down on my bathroom counter and noticed I had used that one instead. That got me thinking....

So I decided to compare the ingredients of these two products, which are normally sold separately.

Wow. They are IDENTICAL. And when I say IDENTICAL, I mean that the two products are exactly the same. Promoted as different products. Different sizes. Different prices. Same stuff. Buy two products, but you only need 1. Hmm...

The products -- ahem -- I mean, the PRODUCT, is lovely. It truly is a beautiful moisturizer. HOWEVER, I really am struggling with this one because this is a brand I have loved and respected so much. SO much. I am a member of their affiliate network, I buy their products, I have selected them for articles I have written. My feeling is one of sadness and disappointment because it is almost a feeling of betrayal. I expect more from a company I adore. I am relieved that the product was part of a gift set because if I had spent $38 for the face cream and $28 for the eye cream only to find out they are one in the same--well, I would be absolutely LIVID. I realize, though, that many others HAVE purchased these products separately.

This prompted me to look at another eye cream/facial cream offering from 100% Pure. Let's compare the ingredients in Red Wine Resveratrol Eye Cream and Red Wine Resveratrol Nourishing Cream. As I compared, I felt sincerely let down.

As you can see, the two products are IDENTICAL once again.

Ingredients in the Red Wine Resveratrol Eye Cream (1 ounce, $28):

Organic Rosa Centifolia Flower (Rose Hydrosol) Water*, Organic Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Juice) Leaf*, Vitis Vinifera (Grapeseed) Seed Oil, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Seed Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Resveratrol, Wine (Red Wine) Extract, Organic Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract*, Sodium Ascorbate (Vitamin C), Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Vitis Vinifera (Muscadine Grape) Skin Extract, Lonicera Caprifolium (Japanese Honeysuckle) Extract, Hyaluronic Acid * Certified Organic

Ingredients in the Nourishing Cream (1.6 ounces, $38):

Organic Rosa Centifolia Flower Water (Rose Hydrosol)*, Organic Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe juice) Leaf*, Vitis Vinifera (Grapeseed) Seed Oil, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Seed Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Resveratrol, Wine (Red Wine) Extract, Organic Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract *, Sodium Ascorbate (Vitamin C), Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Vitis Vinifera (Muscadine Grape) Skin Extract, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Butter, Lonicera Caprifolium (Japanese Honeysuckle) Extract, Hyaluronic Acid * Certified Organic

Here's the thing. I understand companies do this. Sadly, it happens ALL the time from other brands. But not one of MY favorite brands! I never imagined that this could or would happen with one of my favorite companies.

My feelings about this brand, in all honesty, are now very mixed. As I stare at my shower shelf with Brightening Cleanser, Cocoa Kona Body Wash, Vanilla Bean Body Wash, and Meyer Lemon Body Wash, I feel disillusioned with 100% Pure.

In my makeup bag, I had lip glosses, a concealer, mascara, and tinted moisturizer from the brand. A 100% Pure toner and primer sat on my bathroom counter. Heck, even the HAND SOAPS in my bathroom were from 100% Pure. My feelings of fandom and devotion, though, have changed. Will I repurchase my favorite products? Will I let the issue go? No. This is unfair to their loyal customers like me.

After this happened, I pulled all of my affiliate ads with 100% Pure on my personal blo even though it provided me with a portion of my monthly income. I hold brands to a higher standard--so why should I give this one a "free pass" for what really feels like deception? Trickery. They WANT you to buy both the facial cream and the eye cream. They're just not counting on you to do your homework. Is this common? I suppose. Is it right? No.
