Whedon promises 'Dr. Horrible' sequel for 'some point in the future'

Dust off your freeze ray, folks, because we're (eventually) going to get the Dr. Horrible sequel we've been desperately waiting for.

If you can believe it, it's been six years since the tragicomic musical mini-series Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (yes, it's all those things and more) was released in three glorious 15-minute acts on the Internet but it's now been confirmed that there will indeed be some sort of sequel....someday.

According to ScreenRant on Sunday, creator Joss Whedon said in a statement that though rumors of a sequel have been floating around for awhile (there was talk of shooting it in the summer of 2012, for instance), he promised there would be a follow-up when everyone has time to get on board.

So the future is uncertain, our passion remains. DH2 will exist, in some format or another, at some point in the future. Unfortunately, the when is still unclear.”

A bit vague, perhaps, but something for fans to hold on to nonetheless. Not that those eager for a sequel can really blame Whedon for the delay in the first place, however, as he has been busy the last few years with a little film called The Avengers and a little follow-up to that called Avengers: Age of Ultron, which is set to be released next May.

Still, Whedon even said the plot has been outlined and several songs have been written. The original certainly left things wide open for a sequel chronicling Dr. Horrible's foray into the Evil League of Evil, so there's no telling what he and Captain Hammer will be up to this time.
