Wheaties teams up with fans for Pujols Family Foundation

St. Louis Cardinals star Albert Pujols is hoping to bring another World Series ring home next week. He’s hoping to bring something else home as well: $10,000 for the Pujols Family Foundation.

Two years ago, Pujols and other pro athletes helped Wheaties develop a special cereal, Wheaties FUEL. Now, through the duration of the World Series, for every original tweet mentioning #FuelPujols or post supporting Pujols on Facebook.com/Wheaties, Wheaties will be donating a dollar to his foundation, up to $10,000.

“The passion from our fans here and across the country has helped us get one step away from our goal of winning a championship,” Pujols said in a news release. “Wheaties FUEL is giving our fans a chance to continue their support for both our team on the field and those in need off the field through my foundation.”

The Pujols Family Foundation provides assistance to families affected by Down syndrome and to impoverished people in the Dominican Republic. A team from the foundation recently went to the Dominican on an aid trip. The foundation also threw its annual Autumn Prom for young people with Down syndrome last week.

“As the playoffs progressed, we wanted to show support not only for Albert’s athletic achievements on the field, but also the important work he does off the field,” Wheaties Marketing Manager Betsy Frost told the Albert Pujols Examiner. “The Fuel Pujols campaign seemed a natural way to rally fans while also supporting the cause and community Albert cares so much about.”

Wheaties FUEL is designed to give athletes nutrition and energy. Athletes Peyton Manning, Hunter Kemper, Kevin Garnett and Bryan Clay and a sports nutritionist were also involved in the project.

“Wheaties FUEL is proud to have Albert Pujols as a part of the Wheaties Family,” Frost said.
