David Keith Lynch, one of the most interesting and bizarre directors of our time is no longer making movies. Through interviews, he said this is his choice and though one can't blame him for his reasons, his many fans long for the day to be taken back into the surreal worlds he created for us.
Mr. Lynch was known for his disjointed narratives and absurdism, particularly in one of his last films "Mulholland Drive." While some have been critical of his work over the years for not conforming to Hollywood standards, he has been a favorite among emerging filmmakers. Always innovative, always making us think and most importantly, always taking us on a journey.
Then, in 2006 after the release of his last film "Inland Empire," Lynch decided to stick with music videos, commercials and releasing CDs. He has not made his way back into the film industry to make a feature since.
In a time when so few original films are released and the American audience is stuck with the mundane year after year, it is through Mr. Lynch that we need to revived. With his imagination, his characters and his colorful worlds, we miss Mr. Lynch now more than ever.
Just when all continued to seem lost, a miracle occurred. In November of 2012, Mr. Lynch revealed that "something will happen." He can't assure us when, but with a simple statement, he shined a light on the possibility that movies will be magical again when he returns.
Now, all we can do is wait....
