G-M-O...three letters that either confuse the population or make them turn their brains off, because they're afraid of the truth that lies behind it. It stands for Genetically Modified Organism, the process in which scientists take the genes from one food source and combine it with another, to either make it more cost effective or to speed up the growth process. Our world doesn't have to be a place where the majority of people fill their grocery carts with preservative packed "food" and feed their children what is literally a science experiment. I don't know about you, but the idea just makes my stomach churn.
Some may say, "Okay so what? A little science never hurt anybody." However, the truth is, these GMOs are tremendously detrimental to one's health. A number of animal studies concluded, food that is genetically modified caused infertility, problems with one's immune system, organ changes, increased aging, changes to the gastrointestinal system and fake insulin regulation. If that isn't enough to make you think twice while at the grocery store, then I don't know what will.
Going organic will definitely keep the GMOs off of your plate. Make sure to especially stay away from corn, zucchini, squash, edamame, soy, canola and sugar beets, unless it has that green seal we've all come to know and love.
