In 1976 President Gerald Ford got a swine flu shot to
prevent panic in the streets and take a break from the
massive strains of being President.
Now is the time to panic. Swine fever has hit NYC school children returning from MEXICO (and we all know what that means), and just like the last swine flu panic in 1976 which killed millions* (*or one actually), this one promises to do the same, so please by all means panic.
Actually, after talking to several experts, the consensus I got was: this is the flu, the reason people are panicking is that it is a new strain of flu and so we don't know how well our general immunity will fight it.
But rather than fan the flames of panic like uh, the news media seems to be doing (in the name of profits?), new strains of flu may or may not be more virulent. the Mexican strain of this flu might be more aggressive or the health care in Mexico might we worse.
Either way, here is the latest info from the NYC health department.
The most important thing to prevent the flu, the health care people I spoke with said to do, is WASH YOUR HANDS and keep your hands away from your nose and mouth.
Other natural remedies include using a saline nasal wash, vitamin supplements and eating fruits and vegetables and if you feel sick, stay home and rest. You might also consider an air purifier to clean the air of your gross sneezing stuff.
New York doctor R. Blake Kessler, MD and Medical Expert on JustAnswer.com, has several years of experience practicing Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine says this new strain of flu bears watching because this new virus "could find "fertile ground" in our uninitiated U.S. population."
But if you're waiting for the sky to open and a magic cure to appear, forget it. "The best treatments are the ones that work," he says. "Prevention and containment. These "unimpressive" measures, everyday actions we all can take to avoid becoming a link in the chain of disease, are actually very similar to those effective against seasonal human influenza."
Certified Respiratory Therapist and Health Expert Karel Sleis says not too worry too much unless you've been to Mexico, then seek immediate treatment.
Registered Nurse and health expert Susan Lane says if you feel sick to drink plenty of fluids, water, teas, not coffee or soda as these tend not to hydrate.
After talking with several experts, the general consensus is Swine flu has a terrible name. In fact pork producers and the government are actively seeking to "re-brand" the virus with a new name so people keep eating pork.
Now is the time to focus on wellness. Focusing on disease only causes more disease. I don't mean you ignore it if you're sick, but if the majority of your thoughts are about illness, you are creating a fertile ground for it to occur. Focus on feeling in beautiful perfect health and feel that way, this is also incredibly powerful healing and preventative medicine.
