If you are still not convinced that growing your own plants still isn't for you, then here is some food for thought.
For many years now, large commercial farms have readied their fields by spraying them down with weed killers like Round Up. The farmer would simply spray the ground, wait a week or two, and then their planting dirt would be weed and chemical free. This allows the farmer to have a healthy bed while abstaining from back breaking weed pulling; for these large fields, this is completely understandable.
However, now Monsanto, creator of Roundup, has created Roundup Ready crops. This means that the farmers can now plant their seeds, spray them down with chemicals, and the plants will still grow. These genetically engineered (or GE) plants have been mixed with a chemical called glyphosate, the main ingredient in Roundup making them able to grow even with these chemicals in their system. These GE plants have far more glyphosate than the plants you have grown up with since they are dowsed with weed killer and are able to withstand it.
Glyphosate does affect your body, it would be foolish to think otherwise. Sure, they don't work alone to create medical problems for the people, but if they were not in your system, then you would not have gotten sick in the first place. Having these chemicals in your families' body can lead to horrible diseases. A Dr. Seneff states that glyphosate is possibly "the most important factor in the development of multiple chronic diseases and conditions that have become prevalent in Westernized societies,” including obesity, allergies, depression, cancer, infertility, multiple sclerosis, gastrointestinal disorders, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease, and most prevalent Autism. Many studies have shown that these chemicals are a major contributor to autism. Since the release of these Roundup Ready plants in 1996, Autism has risen a whopping 40%! That is too much of a coincidence to ignore. Yet these companies not only deny the allegations, they continue to create more crops that can handle their herbicides.
Monsanto claimed that their product was biodegradable, environmentally friendly, and “left the soil clean”. However, in 2009 a French court found Monsanto guilty of false advertising. To make matters worse, if a farmer is found in possession of their crops (due to cross pollination by the wind) without having paid for them, then Monsanto has been known to sue the poor farmer for all they are worth. So not only are these Roundup Ready crops taking over other regular crops, Monsanto is making sure no non-glyphosate planters survive.
Jeffrey Smith, author of "Seeds of Deception",said “Monsanto, during some reflective moment, must have asked 'What would Darth Vader do?' Because what they've come up with is a way of pretending that they're beneficial and then insinuating themselves into the food and agriculture industry, and now it turns out that what they have is very, very dangerous.” If something isn't done soon, Monsanto is going to take it's Death Star seeds and treat Earth like Alderaan.
You don't have to make a stand against Monsanto, but you may want to give organic foods another chance. It you don't read an article from this writer ever again, it's cause Monsanto sent their black helicopters after the writer.
