Jesus has already spoken to every heroic Veteran, to every man or woman who sacrificed life and limb, risking their lives for our freedom--to every member of the Coast Guard, National Guard, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and fallen heroes of 9/11--and speaks to them today through the words of Sacred Scripture.

"Happy those who hunger and thirst for what is right: they shall be satisfied." Matthew 5:6

"Is there a man among you who would hand his son a stone when he asked for bread?" Matthew 7:9

To all the Veterans, moms and dads, who fed their children the bread of liberty through heroic self-sacrifice...we salute you.

"Therefore, everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be a sensible man who built his house on rock." Matthew 7:24

Dear fallen Veteran, you understand better than anyone the sacrificial Love of Jesus Christ! For you took Jesus at His Word.

"The harvest is rich but the laborers are few..." Matthew 9:37

It is not just priests that God calls, but also defenders of the innocent.

"Do not be afraid of them therefore." Matthew 10:26

The Lord was always your courage, dear Veteran. Now He is your salvation.

"Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; fear him rather who can destroy both body and soul in hell." Matthew 10:28

Your courage, amidst bullets and bombs, attests to your reliance on the Lord. He embraces you now in heaven.

"Anyone who prefers father or mother to me is not worthy of me." Matthew 10:37

You sacrificed everything to go across half the world to defend us. Thank You.

"Anyone who finds his life will lose it; anyone who loses his life for my sake will find it." Matthew 10:39

For family, for country, for faith, you lost your life and limb. Yet, in Jesus, you receive eternal Life.

"He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters." Matthew 12:30

Fighting for freedom, and justice, though, possibly not Christian, every faithful Veteran fought for the Love of Christ.

"Anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven, he is my brother and sister and mother." Matthew 12:50

Laying down your life for your nation, you followed the example of the Crucified Lord, pleasing the Heavenly Father.

"Courage! It is I! Do not be afraid." Matthew 14:28

Brave in battle, you are in the bosom of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Rest in Peace.

"No; anyone who wants to be great among you must be your servant..." Matthew 20:26

Your faithful service has given you greatness among us!

"...You must love your neighbor as yourself." Matthew 22:39

Your love for your fellow citizen is illuminated in your great personal sacrifice.

"...I tell you most solemnly, in so far as you did this to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me." Matthew 25:40

In protecting our freedom, you protected the poor Christ.

" My God, my God, why have you deserted me?" Matthew 27:47

In your suffering Christ suffered with you. You will Rise with Him in glory.

"And know that I am with you always; yes, to the end of time." Matthew 28:20

God bless our Veterans! Happy Memorial Day.
