Martin Luther King’s birthday will be observed on Monday, January 20, 2014. As his life and legacy is celebrated around the country it is a regular workday for most businesses.

All retail stores normally open on Mondays will be open their normal business hours. Many will offer special sales.

The United States Postal Service will close all post offices and there will be no home or business deliveries on the holiday. State and local offices will also be closed.

Most libraries will be open although some may have reduced hours. Check your local library as some exciting special programs are being presented. For example, Rochester Hills Public Library will feature a visit from multi-award winning illustrator Bryan Collier.

Banks will close with a few exceptions. Michigan First Credit Union will close free-standing branches but branches inside the Meijer stores in Fraser, Lincoln Park and Rochester Hills will be open from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Trash collection in some municipalities such as Rochester Hills will maintain the normal schedule as Allied Waste does not observe the holiday.
