What will 2014 bring?

See also

The holiday season is bygone, as well as the year 2013, and resolutions are being made. Only 356 days till Christmas! So what will 2014 bring us in addition to another Christmas, birthday and broken resolutions? Well I have found a few things that might be of interest.

· A new tech gadget.

There will be more than one, but these are particularly interesting. Google Glasses and Smart Watches. As if we aren’t satisfied with our phones being smarter than us, we can now wear glasses and watches that respond to voice commands and give us the Internet, our social media, music and email right in front of our faces or on our wrists.

· “50 Shades of Grey”

The movie. We can only wonder if this will create hoopla as big as the book. After many casting changes it was finally decided on Jamie Dornan to play Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson will be Anastasia Steele. Dakota is daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson.

· Monumental celebrity birthdays.

Turning 70 years old will be Danny Devito, Michael Douglas and Diana Ross. Onto the 60-year-old train will be Oprah Winfrey, John Travolta and Howard Stern. Courteney Cox, Sandra Bullock and Rob Lowe have birthdays pushing them over the hill at 50. Happy Birthday(s)!!

· The Winter Olympics

February 7th through February 23rd 2014 the Olympics for the first time in history will be held in Russia. Sochi, a Black Sea resort town, is host to 98 different events. Our Americans Shaun White, Lindsey Vonn and Bode Miller will certainly dominate the snowboarding/skiing mountains. Sarah Hendrickson, a 19-year-old ski jumper and U.S. curler Ann Swisshelm, one of the oldest competitors at age 45 will have us cheering. Join in as we root, root, root for the home team as Patrick Kane from the Chicago Blackhawks plays hockey for Team USA!

· A cure for baldness.

Perhaps hoping more for cancer, Alzheimer’s or diabetes, baldness is something else researchers have been working on two potential baldness cures. One is a procedure that gets rid of the top layer of skin to stimulate cells called follica and the other is a lotion that helps stop an enzyme contributing to hair loss, yet to be named.

· One World Trade Center

The tallest building in New York City, and in the US, standing at an inspiring 1,776 feet tall called “One World Trade Center”, formerly called the Freedom Tower, will be opening this year. While the September 11 Memorial and the reflecting pools are currently open, the adjacent museum is scheduled to open this spring also.

· Oscar hopefuls.

This year’s movie “”All Is Lost” is said to be the Oscar winner for the 77-year-old grandfather Robert Redford. We’ve loved him in everything he has done both acting and directing and wish him luck. Second runner up? Grandpa Tom Hanks for his role in “Captain Phillips”. Either one would be well deserving.

Here’s wishing 2014 brings you everything you’re hoping for! Happy New Year!
