What type of online class will work for you? part 3

Compare and contrast the two formats

Which format of on line learning is for you? Self paced or scheduled?

Yesterday we looked at the pros and cons of taking the Answers in Genesis introductory online course Foundations in Creation Apologetics. Today we examine APO 111, AiG’s a self-paced course.

APO 111 might be for those who cannot fit their schedules around a course schedule but have the self discipline to find time in their schedules to learn. Students can enroll and begin at any time, taking up to six months to complete the course. Although online interaction with fellow students in not included, students are able to contact an AiG instructor for assistance through email.

There are three assignments to submit, since the bulk of the assessment will be through online quizzes and a final test. Certificates of completion will be awarded to those who finish courses with a final score of 75% or higher.

PRO: People with irregular schedules such as those who travel, are deployed by the military, or work odd shifts or in spurts or those with medical conditions that would interfere with a scheduled class may find this format works the best for them.

CON: Due to the nature of this course, there will not be any interactive forums or chats with other students. Generally discussing topics with peers broadens understanding and increases the depth of learning. Since grading is heavily dependent on test scores, this option may not be the best for those with test anxiety.
